Well technically 2nd 5k if you count the Warrior Dash the 1st of this month. But anyway, Ill be running my first "regular" 5k tomorrow morning! I am super excited and just looking for any tips and pointers and such. I know I can make it without having to stop..I guess I am actually some what interested in getting a good time. Before I would just run for fitness, now I am starting to pay attention to how fast I can run as well.
Anyways...any input would be appreciated

    Have fun, most importantly.

I like to find someone who seems to be running the same pace as me, and try to keep at a comfortable speed for the first half or so. Then I still have some oomph left to pass people in the last half of the race. I also like having some seedless grapes in my pocket. It's like taking a drink, without spilling it down your neck.

    Good luck tomorrow!

You'll likely run faster than you normally do during your exercise/training runs -- something about adrenaline and running with a bunch of people faster than you that will make you push harder

So...my only advice would be to make sure you don't take off at too quick of a pace. My first couple 5K's I didn't really pay much attention to my starting speed and I was dead and slow for the last mile. Find a nice groove and settle into it, then if you feel the urge to push for the last mile, let loose.

I'm doing the Chocolate Chase in Charlottesville tomorrow morning. It'll be my first, too! Haven't ever done a race before, so I'm pretty nervous. I have one goal: cross the finish line  Hoping to not have to walk at all, but I'm not going to kill myself if I can't do it. Never know what my nerves will do to me.

    How'd everyone do?!?!?!?1
I finished my 5k in 42 minutes, which was under my goal time but still not as fast as I would like. I ran in intervals, running for a few minutes, then walked for a few, I tried making the running times longer than the walking though lol it was a nice morning for a run =) I stood on the boardwalk and watch the sun rise with dolphins jumping in the water, what a beautiful site!!
Hope everyone else had a great race day!!!!

Sounds about like mine! I was at 41:59. It was crazy hilly, with the biggest hill right at the end.

I actually made a post about my experience, since it's very different from your average person: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/368702-my-inspirational-i-hope-nsv

31:05! I came in 4th in my age group of 25-29! So excited My brother also ran (he is active duty military) and he also got 4th in his age group! He did it in 26 mins and some change. So I wasn't to far behind him! lol

Starting out I got passed by pretty much EVERYONE but I was keeping my steady pace. Eventually I started to come up on, and pass people! I had a lady I was pacing but she would stop to walk, and I ran the entire thing...she was ahead of me towards the end, a good gap, but when i saw those cones marking the finish I ran faster then I have ever ran in my life!!! I didn't beat her, but I got darn close on her tail!

And at the end the had awards and raffles...I won a 25$ gift card to Manhattans and some free bloomin onion cards for Outback steak house lol
