at sit-ups/crunches... i can only lift my neck and shoulders above the ground, never my actual back, although i still feel a good burn when i do it the way that i can, the only other way i can do it is if i start sitting up and dont let my back reach the ground, why do i suck? im good at everything else :/ im trying to sculpt my abs.

Get an exercise ball. and you may do better with your arms crossed your chest rather than behind your head.
With the ball, you can change your angles allowing you to strengthen your abs and rebuild them from your pregnancy.
  • keep trying! You'll get stronger!

You should try planks. I feel it is alot better then crunch sit up. I can't do those because my pregnancies separated my abdominal muscles.
Planks are a really good core exercise

I second the exercise ball idea. I can go sit ups but they never seemed effective for me. I would suggest doing other ab exercises that are usually more effective (at least for me) --- such as laying on your back and putting your legs up perpedicular to your body and reaching your toes or lifting your feet towards the ceiling, planks, etc. Supposedly the plank is the best overall ab exercise because it works all of the ab muscles at once. They can be hard but once you get used to it you can hold them longer or add weight or do side planks/other variations. Ab Ripper X is an awesome video for ab exercises. I do most of those with a few extras. If you have an iphone they have an app called daily ab workout -- -they also have them for legs/arms/butt/yoga/cardio and you can choose from 5-10 minutes of the routine or choose particular exercises too.

Try lying on your back, bending your knees and just lifting your hips up. Or, lying on your back with legs straight and just lifting your heels off the ground-even a little. Make sure to focus on using your abs. Sit-ups hurt my neck, so I often work my abs this way.
