Why do you insist I do it your way?

I am clearly not right, if I was right I wouldn't have gotten fat
I am happy to hear any bit of advice that anyone has, I read it, take it on board, pass it through my 'common sense' filter - otherwise known as my brain and then if it passes I try it out
Just because someone says you should do something doesn't mean you have to do it............ well unless it's a policeman....and he is on duty........0 -
well said!
I think the health and fitness journey is a personal one, you try different things until you find what works for you and your lifestyle.
I work in an industry where I hear all sorts of opinions around different eating plans etc and of course to those people that have had great success with it, it is the be all and end all, but then you could meet someone who tried that form of healthy living and had no results, or got sick from it.
Really no- one can tell you what's right and wrong for you, that's for you to decide
if everyone was just more in tune and listened to their bodies they would soon know what foods do and don't agree with them. if they get irritable bowels from dairy, don't eat dairy, if they get headaches from bread don't eat bread. our bodies tend to send us signals for what it does and doesn't like as fuel.
But that is just what ive found from my personal journey and it doesn't make me right or wrong, it is just what i have found right for me

I think a big problem is that even the so-called experts don't agree. For every scientific study Joe finds saying A, Jane can find one saying B. One dietitian says X and the other says Z.
It's not a one size fits all approach either. While many people on here lose weight and feel just fine eating bread, pasta, cookies, cake, etc. those particular items would end up eventually killing me. I can't have wheat, oats, barley, rye or anything similar.
And I see people asking a question about how to cut sugar from their diet and many people coming on saying don't worry about - sugar isn't bad for you, etc. Well that's not what the person asked. The person wants to cut sugar from their diet and asked for ways to help do that.0 -
I like this post.
I will admit that many, many times I read posts and think to myself that "X" person is being an idiot/going about it all wrong/is obviously clueless, etc... I rarely post it though.
There are so many contradictory opinions floating around, and not a lot of concrete facts. And finding the concrete facts to back up my opinions is time consuming. So, since I'm lazy, I read, scoff silently to myself, and move on.
Overall, though, I think that it is very individual. . And since I don't like people shouting at me to do things the way they do it , I try not to do it to anyone else.0 -
I think there are many reasons for this.
1. People who don't really care but just like to argue online.
2. People who honestly believe that they are right and everyone that doesn't tell them they are 100% correct is wrong.
3. The "misery loves company" rule. People who have diseases or conditiions that they know or suspect they have caused themselves that now causes them to have limit things they'd rather not limit. But if everyone limits them, then maybe, just maybe, they can believe it really wasn't their fault after all.
4. People are A-holes0 -
i guess people do it (i don't try and recruit, i just give my experience, take it or leave it, i don't care), because most of the forum topics are questions.
why am i plateauing
how can i lose weight faster
what am i doing wrong etc.
so when you ask a question on a forum, you get a lot of opinions back. and when i ask a question on a forum, i want a range of responses to read and choose from.
so i guess i tell my experience because it's what i've got. but i couldn't care less about what people actually choose to do, whatever works i guess.0 -
AMEN!! This is probably the best post I have seen.
I have learned a lot on MFP from others posts and shared what I know (or think) but whats with these people who badger and argue even insult people on here. I thought this was a motivating site not a bashing site!
Love your post0 -
I try not to be one of those people but I have one in my life. I think that there is a thought process that someone must be right and therefore someone must be wrong. If you don't like/do it their way then you must think they are wrong/bad and therefore they must defend themselves to the bitter end. I don't know where that comes from, but that's my take on it.
You know my ex-wife?
I'm sorry ...
bhahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!! That made me chuckle.0 -
Very nice post! Thank you and no flames from me. I believe that every BODY is different. What works for me at 61 years of age and only being 5'1" tall will not be applicable to a 6' tall 250 pound male that is 20-years-old.
I grow weary of the "water" debate. I bet the docs wish they had changed the wording to "FLUID INTAKE."
I say whatever works for you is great. Know your own body, embrace your plan, and best wishes to everyone that they succeed.0 -
I totally get what you mean.. and sadly at times, I can be one of those people.
I get a lot on here of how did you lose all the weight, any tips, etc.. and when I answer those questions, I make sure to emphasize do what works for you.. and that your body is different then mine, so you can't expect my results... somethings i do may help, but at the end of the day it's still your body.
I also think that people get brainwashed into that everyone must have 1200 calories a day mentality.. when someone says oh I went under, is that ok, it's an instant NO! You need to eat even if your not hungry and it's 1 am... I don't care, net 1200! Again, it's their body, so 1200 may not be appropriate... Even if you think it's so.0 -
Rude people exist.
Online, rudeness tends to be magnified.
My suggestion is that you just realize that and take what you want from comments, ignore the rest. There may be some merit in a rudely-worded post, and it's up to you to figure out what you do and don't want to take away.
Of coruse, that's just my opinion.Take it, leave it, whatever ... no skin off my nose.
THIS is exactly what I have learned to do in the 4 weeks being on this forum.0
