Another period post. Shark week. TOM. Whatever you call it.

How long does your cycle usually effect your weight loss?
How long do you take it into consideration, or reasoning behind not losing?
Is it true if you work ~extra hard~ during this time that it'll benefit you more?

You can also just commiserate here.

Since the day before mine, the scale hasn't moved at all. It's gone up .2 or .5, and back down again. I started on the 15th. It's still here. I've been eating around 1,300 calories a day, and since the 13th, I've gone 4 times. I do cardio for 35 - an hour depending on what I'm doing that day, and focus strength on a particular body part - arms, back, legs, etc. I burn usually around 500 - 700 calories. I feel like throwing my scale across the room.

Hello, I normally go up 4-5 freaken lbs during the week of my period. If I stay on track I'm pleasantly surprised after the week passes and I lose additional weight.

PS...Don't weigh yourself daily! It will drive you crazy. I weigh myself every ten days :)

I weigh myself daily, but I don't take it into actual consideration until my weigh in days.

How much water are you drinking? Weight gain or lack of weight loss could come from you retaining water, which is common during this time. I have noticed if I am retaining water and I consume MORE than normal it helps ..... Good luck!

Every woman will be different. Even mine have changed depending on what I eat during pms and then through menstruation. Regardless of keeping to 13-1400 calories, if I eat junk then I inevitably gain during that week, then lose after only to what I had been before. If, on the other hand, I keep eating good foods before and during I generally don't go up during my period, but certainly don't lose any until a couple days after it ends when I drop 4-5 lbs.

    Good luck!

My suggestion would be to stop driving yourself crazy by weighing yourself all the time! Your body's weight will normally flucuate up and down depending on all kinds of things. You're looking for long-term results, right, so - like the stock market - any one day can look good or bad, but it's the long-term trend that's important. Okay… so maybe the stock market analogy isn't a particularly good one right now. :ohwell:

Personally, I never weigh myself more than once a week … same day at approximately the same time. The only time I have ever veered from that is when I got a really weird reading. For example, last week I stepped on the scale and I was down 4 lbs. Now, I'm sure I would recognize a 4lb weight loss in 7 days and that's not what the mirror and my clothes were telling me. So, I made sure I hydrated, did normal activities, and slept well and weighed myself the next morning. I was up 2 lbs, so I recorded that. I also, of course, am wondering about my scales consistency. :)

So, don't torture yourself with ounces… look for the long-term trend in pounds lost! Maybe if you don't stress over it… you'll lose! :D

That is killing me. TOM was over around a week ago and totally stalled my weight loss. Then my husband thought it was a good idea to talk about all our fave bad foods... I was mostly good (but not completely) and then totally caved half a week later. Today I ate a ton a ton a ton of calories.

Its really hard during TOM especially when people sabotage you. RAWR!!!!

However if I'm really good I only gain a little TOM and lose a few pounds after. It takes a lot of strength of mind, patience, and doing the right thing most of the time.

I feel for ya girl! That time is so hard but I bet if you pull through for another 5 days or so it will come back down.

... but it makes me angry just thinking about it. LOL!

I try not to weight myself that week and even a few days after. I find that about a week later I will loose almost 3 lbs in a week. and another 2 the next week. It all adds up. But like I said. I dont weigh myself. Dont really see the point. I know the scale wont move

Do you have a list for ovulation or the luteal phase? I would really like to cover my entire cycle.

You should see a doctor about that. That isn't normal, or healthy.

I feel your pain. lol. I always gain the week before and I get bloated around the belly. I hate it. The other week I was feeling confident about my weight loss and looking in the mirror I was feeling good - then the next week looking in the mirror all I could see was a rounded belly and the scales went up. Like the others have said, maybe we should just avoid the scales at that time! I try to only get on once a week, but I always cave and it drives me crazy.

My stomach bloats the whole week before I start my period, then after the first couple days, I get skinny as heck. I guess my stomach loses its bloating and then some :D Can't complain about that part.

I get mine on tuesday(thank you birthcontrol for making it predictable!) and I am more bloated then a fish.

I tend to keep my normal routine up if I can(one day of cardio and one or two days of strength if I can) and not weigh in at all.
I know that it's just going to go up and when I'm done with this darn thing that I will have lost all that and then some.
