:frown: I am always over my daily limit of Sugar. I really need to reduce that. I am under my calorie limit for most of the days, but my sugar intake is always higher than what's recommended. The only thing I use sugar in is my morning tea (2 tsp). Rest of the day I use splenda or nothing at all.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks, San.

    A lot of packaged foods are loaded with sugar you might not be aware of: things like flavored yogurts, protein/energy bars, juices and other such things. Of course, if the sugar is coming from fruits/vegetables, don't worry about it.

    Can't see your diary. I've found that when I increase my fat intake my sugar intake drops substantially.

    Lower your carbs --- up your protein.
    Carbs = sugar

    There are also good and bad carbs --- for instance, quinoa is a good carb -- its high protein, low glycemic so it would be much better for you than eating a big bowl of mashed potatoes.

    If your sugar is over primarily because of fruit, its not that bad...but if it from sweet fruit like canned with syrup, juices etc... you need to start reading labels and looking for the no sugar added or low sugar options.
  • Read your labels! If you stick with a high protein and lower carb style diet, low sugar should be easy. I try to stay under 20G sugar/day, I am a vegetarian so I eat lots of cheese, hummos, natural nut butters and stevia for sweetener. I try to keep my carb portions around 20G per serving. If you really read your labels and stick with it for about a month, you will figure out what is putting you over your sugar budget :) For example, I often use marinara as a condiment, it provides a lot of flavor. Some marinara sauces have as little as 3 grams of sugar per serving and most are much higher. I have noticed that since I have taken sugar out of my diet, I easily lost weight, I don't have cravings, I also don't get shaky and lightheaded in between meals. Good Luck to you!
  • Thx for the advice. I dont think my sugar is coming from carbs or fruits. My recommended daily sugar is 24 and 20 of that comes from the morning tea. I am thinking about substituting those 2 tsps with splenda. I just don't like the taste of splenda in the morning :ohwell:

    I don't eat a lot of fruits. I will substitute the sugar in my morning tea with Splenda and see if that helps at all.

    I do read everything. I think I forgot to mention in the post that 20 out of 24 sugar comes from the tea with sugar. So I'll just substitute that and see where it takes me. How does stevia taste? Is it better than splenda, if you ever tried splenda? I don't like the slightly bitter aftertaste of splenda.

    That's the sugar you don't want to be over if its actually coming from really eating sugar.

    If you don't like splenda - don't use it. There are plenty of other alternatives.
    Truvia, Stevia, Agave, Sweet-n-low --- figure out which one you like.
