Without going the complete Atkins introduction route just wondering how many carbs people consider low carb? I had a bunch of whole wheat pasta yesterday and oh my....lets just say gas was my friend my family was not last night ahhahah.....I know I over ate to much but honestly everytime I eat carbs crazy stuff happens to my body(i don't remember this happening years ago)-I did atkins years ago it worked wonders for me....have tried a few times after I had my last child and just could not stick with it(less will power i guess-never had the right food in the house) anyhow I am just wondering what is considered low carb...thinking of messing with my carb count a bit......I know i feel better when i have less since It makes me eat alittle cleaner......
Thanks :)

You could always try reducing it gradually, rather than in one go - that way you can work out what your body works best with.

For me, I aim for 100-150g carbs a day, which isn't particualrly low, though it's about half of what some sources recommend.
  • I used to eat Pyotts cracker bread after my first 3 days of induction and still managed to lose 15kg in 3 months.
I used to have 3-4 crackers a day (4g carb per cracker - and they are quite big) - they come in corn, wheat and rye
I gave up bread as I get a red ring around my mouth
(so if that's on the outside I didnt even wanna think what was happening on the inside.)

when you introduce carbs back try and go with rice noodles or corn pasta as opposed to wheat
  • that was about 10 years ago..... and I really need to get back to that way of eating. I feel so much better (and less gassy and bloated when I don't eat wheat/ bread etc)

think i might stick with my 1300 cals and go to 65g of carbs a day and see where would take me....i have a hard time staying at the cal count so who knows how i will do with the carbs....but maybe i won't have so much cravings.....what do you think all?

I took a look at my carb intake in relation to the foods I most commonly eat. I even plotted an few example days (on my Friday 21st & Sat 22nd food diary pages) where I cut out easy to change processed & added sugar carbs. Most of the carbs I eat are from natural sources, dairy, fruit & veg and my morning Oatmeal that I ain’t ever giving up!

Taking away the processed and Sugar carbs that I eat typically would bring my carbs down to approx. >200/day on a 2900 calorie diet. To lower them significantly further i.e. sub 150/day would mean giving up oatmeal and milk.

That’s a step I’m not prepared to take.

So even if I tried to cut out added sugar and processed grain carbs, I’m still looking at 25-30% carbs in my diet. That’s my idea of Low carb

No way on earth could I sustain a sub 50gm Carb lifestyle.

Try getting all your carbs from veggies and whole grains. I have worked up the carb ladder from 20 net carbs to as much as 150 gm a day and I'm still loosing. Most Low carb plans restrict carbs to the lowest level only in the first couple of weeks. or the first phase as they call it. They teach you how to introduce those carbs again but only the healthy ones. I still try to stay clear of white rice and white sugar. I also have some weird side effects to wheat pasta ..I might try another kind but for right now I just eat it rarely. After 7+ yrs of watching my carbs I have found that people around me that have a hard time going hard core to the low low first phase....have a great success just cutting their daily carbs in half and making that half more healthier choices.

There are really great things out that you can have instead. But to each his own.

    good luck

I look at my protein and fat needs first, then fill in the rest with carbs. Right now I'm consuming 25% carbs, which translates into about 200g's of carbs. Anything around 40% or less could be considered low carb and the 0-60 g's is basically very low carb.

I stay close to 20 net carbs a day (so about 30-40 total carbs). I am still losing a weight, so I'll climb the carb ladder as I get close to my goal.

My carb count varies from one day to the next.............Some days it is 0 and other days it may be close to 60-70 area...........

I just make sure i eat plenty of fat, moderate amounts of protein and get my carbs from vegetables first and a piece of fruit here and there (those are my higher end days).

I am losing weight beautifully also. I am not stepping on the scale until October 31 though so I will see how much I have lost over the month at the end of the month.
