Pizza.

I just ordered a pizza. I asked them to go light on the sauce- just enough for flavor. Do you think that will make a big difference in calories? Also, I always blot the pizza with napkins to get the extra grease off.

Tomato sauce is not high in calories, you could ask to go light on cheese, that would make a bigger difference!!!

Nah - you might save yourself 50 calories at best lol

It's the cheese and dough that contains the most calories in pizza. I say if you are going to go for it and have a pizza as a treat - just go for it and enjoy it, don't worry about 'blotting' the grease off heh

fit the pizza into your daily calorie goal and be happy. I eat pizza a couple times a week sometimes and it hasn't hindered my weight loss!

Light on the sauce will help a little, but next time, order thin crust with less cheese and top it with veggies if you want to save calories.
  • To make a dent in cals you should have done thin crust with light cheese. The sauce is probably the better part. Enjoy though. :)

Try an extra thin crust pizza or if your feeling really ambitious make your own pizza. I find then I can control how much cheese goes on and how thick the crust is. It is a lot easier to make than you would think.

Solution: When the pizza gets there, just have a few slices instead of inhaling the entire thing through a straw. Then, put the leftovers in the fridge and have a few more tomorrow.

Calories are in the dough and cheese, but depending on size and where your ordering from. You can look up the calories per slice and fit that in within your calorie allowance for the day. A typical medium size pepperoni w/cheese; 1-slice is around 230-270 calories.

Log all of the calories. Light sauce and blotting the top is insignificant compared to the rest of the ingredients.

If you're really looking to cut calories then it should be a veggie pizza with light cheese on a thin crust.

^This. You could also order it without cheese, but then it wouldn't really be pizza.

If you really want to save calories on your pizza, order the thin crust and go light on the cheese. Most of the calories are in the cheese and the sauce.

    What?

    15 people already said that?

    Oh...

I make tortilla pizzas and pile on a bunch of good veggies (like marinated eggplant and Italian olives from the deli) and a little bit of cheese. They kick *kitten*! And, they are low-calorie.

To REALLY save on calories, blot the grease off the pizza and then suck on the napkin...ignore the pizza.

I will occasionally order a pizza hut or a dominoes pizza, and if I'm doing that I will eat around 5pm. I know it's not the best of ideas, but I simply don't eat anything after breakfast so that I don't go over my calories. I know it's not healthy for my body, but at least I still don't go over. It's only once every couple of months, anyway.
  • Ok, I'm not eating the pizza alone- my son is sharing it with me. Thought I should clear that up. I never actually thought to get a thin crust or go light on cheese. That's why I asked you guys what you thought. Next time, I will do that. My half of the pizza has only mushrooms on it, btw. Thank you for all your suggestions. :flowerforyou:

Just enjoy a slice of pizza. Have a salad or some other veggie with it. And drink water! But most of all, enjoy it in moderation!

Pizza is not evil if you just have a couple slices.

The sauce probably has the least calories of anything else. Cheese, meat, and dough make up probably 95% of the calories in a pizza.

I think the pizza problem is the dough... and the cheese. So I don't think your trick is gonna do much. I'm sorry!

    This.

I make my own pizza with homemade whole wheat crust, 2% milkfat cheeses, and zero sugar added sauces. My entire large pizza is about 1100 calories...which is what I would get out of 2 slices of my favorite Domino's pizza with the exact same ingredients. I normally have half of the pizza that I make (about 550 calories) and then have smaller snacks and it fits the diary perfect.

Delivered pizzas...even the veggie ones...are terrible when it comes to calories because the sauces are sugary, the cheeses are fatty, and the dough is thick, processed, white crap...

Your best calories saving bang would be to do thin crust with veggies. You will fill up faster and have less crust. The crust and cheese is what kill ya.

Tonight is our weekly Pizza and pool night. We do take n bake from Pappa Murphy's and we get the delight veggie pizza. It has a super thin crust and all veggies. Plus with the exercise from the pool, I can afford to have it. Remember it is always calories in vs. calories out.

i LOVE PIZZA! The dough/crust is your biggest problem. I ate 5 pieces last weekend. I also burned 15,000 calories last week (and almost 9,000 this week)so its not a concern.

If your gonna eat pizza you gotta burn it off before you consume it. Each slice is like 300 calories so burn an extra 1500-2000 cals when eating pizza etc the bad, bad foods and that will relieve your stress.
