in the kitchen. Yes. You read that right. In. The. Kitchen. Sure, I've worked myself to a frenzy in the gym the last 4 months (110 days give or take), but I have learned that there is no way that I would have been able to form abs without eating clean. I gave up cheese, most processed food, most fried foods and alcohol (but only in the last 4 weeks, and only for 2 more, lol). Oh, and I drink at least 8 glasses of water or more.

So, in case you ever wanted to know how to get abs, work out hard, but eat right. Hard work pays off, but abs are made in the kitchen.

while i totally agree diet is the most important aspect in leaning out, i don't think you have to eat clean to achieve abs

I don't eat totally clean, myself. I eat "decent" or clean(er) than I used to.

    My next challenge will be:

that's a lot of reps, personally if i was going to do direct ab work, it would involve lower reps and all weighted exercises, weighted side bends, weighted incline crunches etc

I work out 5 to 6 days a week. I came up with alternative home work outs and challenges for days I don't go to the gym to lift weights, etc. I alternate all workouts and all body areas, always switching it up and making sure to put in a day or 2 of rest a week.

I'd say for still learning, I'm not doing too shabby, if I must say so myself.

when i do direct ab work, i usually do it once a week, 5-10 min in a circuit fashion, not unlike the workout you posted, just a lot less reps, all weighted and 3 sets of the circuit. i get core work through squats and deadlifts mostly

yep, I do all that, too. (see other workouts posted in blog). I don't post my gym workouts, though. I do, however, like something to do while I watch my DVR'd shows in the evening after my hubs goes to bed. Makes it more fun for me. Plus, I like a good challenge.

I think that would really work well. If you used it to lock the door to the fridge.

I agree that abs starts in the kitchen, but abs is not the only thing that starts in the kitchen. In my opinion, a healthy body starts in the kitchen.

I don't diet. I don't believe in diets. But I do believe in eating healthy. My version of healthy. I believe in the food pyramid, eating in moderation, portion control and eating anything that I want as long as it falls into my daily calorie intake.

I'd probably chose cheese. And beer.

I have lost 82 pounds and have gone from 255 to 173. I am 6'2" and I was hoping to hit the 165 mark and have enough fat gone to have a flat tummy if not the start of a six pack. I still have about 5 inches on my waist to get rid of before my body fat will be low enough to get this. Right now it looks like I am about 19.5% with a 35" waist. people at work keep yelling at me to stop loosing weight that I am getting sickly. but I hope that the next 10 pounds are from my waist mostly since that is really all I have left.

Did I read that circuit right? 125 reps x 20 sets = 2500 total reps per workout?

I incorporate weighted stuff occasionally but up until recently rarely did any core specific work (have a pretty strong core from the gazillion crunches I used to do  )

    4 sets of 25 crunches, 1 set of 25 push ups x's 20 = 2000 crunches / 500 push ups. That is just a personal challenge.
