Ok, So I ran my first 5k today. It was a bit rougher than I anticiplated. I've been training for a while and thank goodness I have.. It was at a State Park and we ran on grass, gravel, and sand. I'm used to indoor track running or outside pavement. I was hoping to finish in under 40 minutes..however, my actual time was 50 minutes:(

I am pleased however that I didn't walk that much. I might not be the best or fastest runner but my walking was kept to a minimum.
Overall, it was a great experience and I look forward to training and doing more runs. A year ago I could barely walk without getting winded so I'm thankful I could run at all!

I sturggle with my breathing..can't seem to get the right technique down..My body is a little achy and sore but it was a great time!

Dawn

That's wonderful! I did my first 5K last year and it was a little tougher than I thought but it was so rewarding to finish and not give up. It was very fun too!!

Congratulations on your first 5k! Be proud of yourself for doing it! And each time you do you will improve.

I know when I started running I had a horrible time with breathing too, I kept holding my breath and I was getting side stitches. I read a tip somewhere that you should breath in for 3 footsteps and out for 2, it really helps me to keep counting. Also I wasn't breathing deep enough, your stomach should be moving in and out when you breathe!

    Keep up the good work!

    ***PROCEED WITH CAUTION***

Rumor has it 5K's can lead to 10K's which lead to half marathons and then one day someone will sucker you out of $$ so you can put a 26.2 sticker on your vehicle.

    Enjoy the ride and congrats!!

Way to go! That is so awesome! I ran my first 5k last month and it was a fantastic experience, so glad I did it. And now all I wanna do is run more! And don't worry about the time, you accomplished something important, even if it wasn't as fast as you would have liked!! Be proud of what you did!

Love ^^this. I have done a couple 5Ks and now training for my first half.

Congrats on your first. My first was 58 minutes (100% walking), and now I'm down to about 43 minutes (walk/jog) so you are already starting our better than me! Way to go! Now that I'm doing serious running training I hope to do much better, but Nov 19 will be my first 5K in almost a year so I have no idea what my time will be.

And time doesn't matter on the first one anyway, crossing that finish line is ALL that matters.

Way to go! I will be doing my third one next weekend after never dreaming I would even do one, so yes, they are addicting but that is a great addiction to have. Now when is your next one?
