there is no way you are convincing me that 10 baked tator tots are 160 calories. i go to sonic sometimes and get a SMALL that has 10 tator tots in it and they are DEEP FRIED and its only 130. why the heck does mfp tell me they are so high?

It might be size or the ingredients used... Also, when you buy frozen tots, a lot of times they have already been deep fried, then frozen.... Hope this answer your questions0

Probably depends on the brand and how they package them? They probably put stuff in them to keep them preserved etc.
Unless you mean some you got at a fast food restaurant, and in that case they are all different.0 -
The Ore-Ida tator totts that I WAS going to eat earlier, were 170 in 12 totts. I looked at the package, and decided I'd rather have something else. Not bad if you can work it in as a treat from time to time!0
-
Read the label on your package ---- and if the database is wrong fix it or enter a new item.0
-
ermmmm 16 calories a tot seems perfectly reasonable if not low to me0
-
Sometimes REAL food has more calories than fake food filled with fillers....but since this is tots I'm not sure. It could just be a change in binder, etc for the tots.0
-
see thats the thing. i dont have the label. i ate them at a friends house.0
-
That's what it says on the Ore Ida web site. http://www.oreida.com/products/or-tater-tots.aspx0

Google is your friend :0 If you don't believe MFP then look up the item and read the label online.
It sure doesn't sound high to me... it seems more likely that Sonic is actually 130 for 1/2 an order.0 -
I am a lunch lady at a high school that serves the stupid things every day, and we figured out that they are 19 calories a piece, and our serving size is about 20. So that sounds about right
) Sorry!

Sounds about right to me. Potatoes have a surprising amount of calories...0
-
It's one day, it's not gonna kill you to log them wrong...0
-
Some more comparison.
Sonic's tater tots are 130 for a small, and that weight is a mere 44 grams.
In comparison, Ore Ida tater tots are 160 calories for double the amount, 86 grams.
You need to consider the overall weight of things when looking at calories.0 -
When I started this site, it would be shocking at times to learn the calorie content of things. Sounds right to me.0
-
I am always shocked at how many calories food have in them! Really makes me compare calories burned thru exercise to calories in a food I want. Sometimes, I just don't want the food that bad! But tater tots with extra salt....yummmmmmm : )0
-
ummm just ask your friend what kind they were and then you can accurately log them. not sure but that calorie count does not sound high to me.0

20 tater tots to a school serving!!!!!!!!!! Wow...I teach school and we are lucky to get five or six to a serving!!! I don't eat them anymore but when I did it was always such a small serving!!!!0

also if they are 19 calories a piece, think about how many calories you just gave those children to eat for a single dish. usually with friend foods they have more fried foods. thats a lovely 400 calorie side with probably more fired chicken and peaches in thick syrup. just goes to say what we feed our kids.0 -
I've never eaten at Sonic, but their website sez a small order of tots weighs 44 grams. I don't know. If you get 10 tots in a small order, doesn't 4.4 grams seem a little light for a tater tot? How big are they?0

Am i the only one thinking, "Napoleon, give me some of your tots."0

This discussion makes me happy I don't like tator tots. Of course, I'm sure home fries are no better.0

And no real nutrition for their little growing selves. No wonder we have a problem0
