is it ok to eat one meal instead of three

It is really bad for you, your body feels like it is in starvation mode. You should eat 3 meals and 2 snacks a day to stay healthy.0
-
this will greatly lower you metabolism and will actually make you gain weight or make it extreemly hard to loose weight also you will notice a great difference in your mood0
-
It's bad for you because it slows down your metabolism.0

Lots of articles say that the whole eating 5-6 times a day is a health myth and that all that really matters is that you at least eat what you should during the day, and it doesn't matter when or how many times you sit down to eat it OR what time of day you eat. You will see about a billion different answers to your question. Do what you think makes sense for you. If it doesn't appear to be working out, then try something new. Good Luck!0

It WILL NOT slow your metabolism...There is no scientific proof that meal frequency has any effect on metabolism...I've lost 20 lbs only eating supper, and I enjoy it.0
-
so much nonsense in this thread
yes it's fine. meal frequency is a preference0 -
Here's one of those articles debunking the myths:

Whether you eat one meal or 7 doesn't really matter.
The trick is to get a nutritionally balanced meal in that one that meets your days needs for vitamins, minerals and your macros.
The problem with buffets is that they are typically laden-ed with obscene amounts of sodium.0 -
this is incorrect you are giving them unhealthy advise I am nurse and currently going to school for my PHd
not eating breakfast and lunch will lower the metabolism because the body's glucose is starting to go down so the body slows down the metabolism so less sugar will be lost, so when one only eats one large meal at dinner it will burn less of it.
Now if one eats a good breakfast and nothing else the body should maintain a good metabolism for most of the day0 -
i seen a special on latoya jackson- michael jacksons sister, and to keep her weight down she eats as much as she wants for one meal a day- like a brunch and doesnt eat til the next day. one meal.
i dont know how u cant not feel starving by dinnertime, but i guess your body can get used to it0 -
diffrent things work for diffrent people thats why there are nutritionist's for instance I eat about 700 calories a day but loose only about a pound a week while for most they would loose much more. For most eating one large meal at night full of saturated fat sodium and sugar is extreemly unhealthy.0

except i linked you to peer reviewed studies on pubmed, i would expect someone in the process of getting their PHd would know what pubmed is. You have not substantiated your claim at all, even though the onus is on you as the original claim maker0 -

So believing medical reports is being dumb, but we should believe a random person that only eats 700 cals per day???0 -

So you're jumping people for eating once a day, meanwhile back at the ranch you are eating 700 calories a day? Zero credibility, hun.0 -
All I know is, once I started eating 5-6 times a day, I began losing weight. My blood sugar levels stayed level. I never have a drop in my sugar.
If a person is going to eat that many times a day, you learn to space out your calories.
I found too that once I began to eat a regular breakfast, I FELT better....You don't eat for several hours when you sleep, your body NEEDS to have nourishment...and breakfast is just that: breaking the fast you've had from not eating since your last meal/snack.
When I ate only once a day, I gained weight and/or did not lose weight. No matter how much I exercised. You just don't eat properly when you eat one huge meal a day...Yeah, I know sometimes it works for people but after a while, your body stops working properly...0 -

There is so much wrong with this grammatically and nutritionally speaking that I'm going to walk away.
Eat however works for you, just make sure you eat enough. Most days I graze, all day, and just log things as meals.0 -
as long as this isn't what you do everyday then it isn't a big deal. However, to keep your body fueled and your metabolism going you should eat three meals and 2 snacks...0

Wow. There is a **** ton of crap in this thread.
Eat whenever you want, OP.0 -

Yea, someone getting a "PhD" would know the difference between scam websites and peer-reviewed published literature. Sorry.
OP: do what you want, if it doesn't work, try something else.0 -
Honestly, it probably won' t make a bit of difference once in a while, but...you'll probably want to eat something else so you're not starving (which is not a food thing no matter what) and just put it down to an off day. And seriously, I doubt you'll eat 1200 calories at one meal. it can be done, but odds are you'll be uncomfortably stuffed.0

well its better to loss weight eating smaller meals it make it easier for ur body to burn it off0

care to back up your claim that your body will stop working properly with lower meal frequency0 -

Yes, this too.0 -
Yes it's fine but you shouldn't be eating all your food from a buffet in general.0

I cannot tell you anything on a "scientifitc" basis, but only what a weight loss doctor and nutritionist advice, but we are advised to eat three meals and two snacks per day because (a) if you eat only once per day, you tend to eat faster, bigger bites and overeat because you are usually very hungry by the time you eat, (b) there is something about how your body handles fat and sugar, but I can't explain it beyond that. LOL. When I eat according to the "schedule", I lost weight consistently; when I eat one big meal per day (unless the other two are meal replacement protein shakes), I tend to plateau. Just the info I was given and my experience, for what it's worth.0
