diffrent things work for diffrent people thats why there are nutritionist's for instance I eat about 700 calories a day but loose only about a pound a week while for most they would loose much more. For most eating one large meal at night full of saturated fat sodium and sugar is extreemly unhealthy.0

I, personally, could not eat one large meal just because of the fact that I know, come evening, I'm going to be starving and would find myself picking at everything in sight thinking (rationalizing) that it's okay because I'm just picking. :ohwell:0

not eating breakfast and lunch will lower the metabolism because the body's glucose is starting to go down so the body slows down the metabolism so less sugar will be lost, so when one only eats one large meal at dinner it will burn less of it.
Now if one eats a good breakfast and nothing else the body should maintain a good metabolism for most of the day
Show me the research that supports your claims on lowered metabolism. And how is eating a large meal at dinner, then fasting for 8 hours at night any different than eating a large breakfast then fasting for 8 hours during the day.0 -

When I was in college I knew of classmates that go to the dinning hall at during breakfast and eat, study for several hours then eat lunch then go to class after lunch and that is all they would eat because they were on a budget.0 -
Nowadays there are so many claims as to how to eat, etc. I also went to nursing school, and I believe in eating either several small meals or 3 meals per day to keep your blood sugar stable with at least 8-10 glasses of water per day.
I'm with another person on this site who made a good comment as to why you're spending each day at a buffet? If you work there all day that's a different story, and I'm assuming you're eating throughout the day there.
I guess it too depends on what you're eating.
If your'e eating grilled or baked fish, roasted turkey/beef/pork, etc with vegetables/salads, and basically healthy buffet style foods that's ok.
If you're eating breaded foods with mashed potatoes and gravy with desserst each day, you will probably NOT lose the weight you would like to lose and will probably gain weight from both starchy and fattening foods.
Everyone is different. Do what you believe to be healthy.
It's basically common sense, but when in doubt ask like you did on this post )
On Sundays I usually fast before church. It's something I do for religious purposes that's a personal sacrifice I do.
I would have to say, if you're going to hang out in a buffet all day - don't live to eat - but eat to live and stay strong and feed your body healthy food or you will regret it later when you start getting health problems such as diabetes from too many starches and gaining weight from eating a very high calorie meal once a day.
Just use your judgement & be aware of what you're putting into your body.
That's why this is such a good site. You can set a calorie/carb/fat, etcetera goal, and stick by that to track what you're one meal is all about. Good luck!

If you are going to do a once a day full throttled meal...make it at breakfast (hopefully it's a healthy buffet with a balanced offering...doesn't matter how big).
I used to skip it totally (mostly because of time constraints) but now that I have started eating large meals in the morning, I barely get hungry during the day. When I DO get hungry, it doesn't come in the form of a hunger pang. When I start to run low on the energy charts, I fill up with proteins...no cravings for a quick and empty calorie meals at all.0 -
It makes sense to me to eat one big meal and get a good amount of calories, feel full and be done.
In my experience, the more I spread out my eating times, the more calories I consume.
In my opinion, you should consume more calories. You've set your daily goal to 800 and most days you don't even come close to that...0 -

Wow, this is a fairly heated thread.
To me, everyone is different and what works for some people won't necessarily work for others.
Personally, I've taken to eating when I'm hungry. Tea and scrambled eggs (2) in the morning. When I'm hungry later, yogurt and berries. And then smaller meals of around 200 calories when I'm hungry. I used to have a problem with being hungry all the time. And I still do sometimes after dinner, but I eat fewer calories during the day with the smaller, more frequent meals. Just thought I'd throw that out there.0 -

I too think you should do as you wish, however, since i started with MFP, i have made sure to eat breakfast every day, and have felt better for it. On weekends, i usually skip lunch and then have a healthy supper, and feel great. I am using a 1200 calorie a day program, and i believe that i have only hit it twice.. (add a beer to your day, and away you go).
But again.. whatever works for you, so long as you are reaching your own personal goals! good luck!:happy:

Thanks you all guys for your replies , what made me ask this question is that fitness-pal doesn't put any limits to meals and it is look like while you are under your calories limits by that day it doesn't matter if you have all that calories in one meal or three meals so I took advantages from that and start going to Chinese buffet every Saturday and eat one meal instead of three0

Personally, I've taken to eating when I'm hungry.
^^ I think this may be the smartest thing I read in the thread LOL How many meals/snacks are eaten in a day for me all depends on my activity level since the more active I am directly relates to how hungry I am. I would assume everyone who is not on a diet but is eating healthy would be similar. How many times or when you physically put food in your gullet has very little importance compared to WHAT you are putting in.
Also, good luck getting the doctorate when you can't even tell the difference between "loose" and "lose" :laugh:0 -

Personally, I think it's best to do that only sometimes. But, that's because I find it really hard to not totally pig out at buffets. As long as you can get through the rest of the day and not be hungry, and you're at or under calories. Go for it!0

No, (in my opinoin) you won't go into starvation mode.. who started that stupid term.
Anyway, I'd see it as not a good idea because Buffets are usually really unhealthy foods. (haha, foods we love to eat) Usually, a lot of grease, vegetable oil, butters, fat, high calorie dressing, desserts, etc. Horrible stuff for your heart. No nutritional value.
If you wanted to eat 1 healthy home cooked meal, then I could see that! It's just about calories and nutrition. Gotta get some good stuff.0 -
All I know is, once I started eating 5-6 times a day, I began losing weight. My blood sugar levels stayed level. I never have a drop in my sugar.
If a person is going to eat that many times a day, you learn to space out your calories.
I found too that once I began to eat a regular breakfast, I FELT better....You don't eat for several hours when you sleep, your body NEEDS to have nourishment...and breakfast is just that: breaking the fast you've had from not eating since your last meal/snack.
When I ate only once a day, I gained weight and/or did not lose weight. No matter how much I exercised. You just don't eat properly when you eat one huge meal a day...Yeah, I know sometimes it works for people but after a while, your body stops working properly...
care to back up your claim that your body will stop working properly with lower meal frequency
I think this guy was saying your body stops working properly because of the poor food choices you make on one meal a day... NOT because it was just one meal a day.
I agree, I think when people choose to eat one meal a day, it's usually a bad meal.. like at a buffet or a whopper from Burger king so they can stay below their calories! lol.0
