BMR and TDEE ?

For those that calculate their BMR and TDEE to determine calorie needs, how often do you re-calculate?

I used to recalculate for every 5 lbs lost, but lately my exercise has been so sporadic that it's hard to pin down where I really fall. Some weeks I am very active (60 + minutes of scheduled exercise 5-6 days a week) and then life gets in the way and I plummet to an almost sedentary activity level (20-30 minutes of moderate exercise, 1 or possibly 2 days a week)

Mostly just curious to see what is working for others, because my own unpredictability is driving me insane right now!

Re-calculate once every couple months or if you plateau.

BMR = basal metabolic rate = how many calories your body burns doing necessary tasks such as blood transport, thinking, breathing, organ uses (imagine being in a coma - this is how many calories you burn in a coma)

TDEE = total daily energy expendature = based on your activity level, this is how many calories you burn in an average day. Higher than your BMR. Examples: if you are sedentary, perhaps around 1,600 cals. lightly active, maybe 1,900 cals. Very active? perhaps 2,300 cals. They vary from person to person but there are some calculators you can use to guess your own.

Okay, what TDEE calculator does everyone use? The final numbers of the ones I have tried today seem to be all over the board.
