My husband and I love to eat out. However, my husband LOVES buffets. I have never been a fan of them.
When we do go, how can I make the right choices and track what I do eat?
I would love to hear how y'all handle this.
Thanks

Oh they scare the hell out of me.....Hard hard choices....I guess go on the buffet's site and see if they have calories on there foods or just stay with the salad....and grilled chicken?0 -
I normaly check out the site first. And if I happen to go over my limit I'll do an extra workout that night just to make sure Im good. I know it's hard my family loves them too and for some odd reason they seem to wanna have dinner at one once a month! Good Luck!0

It's not that bad, if you prepare yourself. Definately have salad and lots of other healthy veggies (hopefully not soaked in butter/oils). Go for what ever meat you enjoy, cut off the fat. And definately have ONE dessert. It'll be okay to have a little bit of your favorite "unhealthly" thing - just don't over do it.0

Sounds good. I'll start with salad stuff and try to keep the bad stuff minimal. I'll just have to guess on caloric intake. Not sure how to measure that.0

Def check out the NI on their website first so that you can make informative decisions. You can also take your own measuring cups. Just spoon the item into your cup before putting it on your plate. My SIL has been known to take her food scale too. lol You might get some funny looks but it will be worth it. Good luck and enjoy.0

Avoid bringing your own scale and use theirs! I always just order to go by the pound (which most buffets offer), I then eat out of the container with my perfectly measured and controlled portions, while my hubby goes wild on the carbs.0 -
ive totally been craving some golden corral lol im thinking ill go next cheat day and not stress about it0

LOL Rockerbabyy! That's my hubby's and daughter's absolute favorite! We are trying a new restauarnt tonight, that we were given a gift card to. We'll see0

When I go I avoid all the deep fried/breaded stuff. No rice/pasta/bread etc. I get a big plate of salad stuff. I take small amounts of the things that I like. Also if you took something, and you really didn't like it, don't be afraid to leave the rest. Better wasted on the plate then on your waist.0

I work at a Western Sizzlin, which is partly buffet. I choose one baked chicken, fish or some sirloin steak. Then I get quite a few small portions of vegetables. I kind of visualise the portion size. Then I put the foods in MFP and go with the closest I can find to what I get.0

What a wonderful idea! I haven't been in a month or two and I absolutely love Golden Corral on a cheat day. I try to keep my portions in control but that's about it. I usually end up eating about twice what I should and then get on with my life:)0 -
My husband is slim and loves buffets too. The way I do it is to go for the veggies. I also eat fish or shrimp as it is lower in calories. I
eat fruit & Jello with a little bit of cottage cheese for desert. Keep track of what you eat and how much.
I do have a lot of will power most of the time. If you don't , you had best
stay away from the buffet.0
