i would have to say 'the joy luck club' was a pretty good adaptation
'memoirs of a geisha' wasn't bad either.

I always felt that the movie adaption of A Clockwork Orange was pretty spot on.0

It's not a movie, but in my opinion the True Blood series on HBO is actually much more exciting and richer in characterization than the original Sookie Stackhouse novels.0

I never read memoirs of a geisha, but I LOVED the movie.
Agree about the joy luck club as well~loved both the book and the movie so much haha0 -
From what I remember The Notebook was pretty good.0

Sin City. I love comics, and i fel like holly wood raped me almost everytime i go see a movie based on a comic or a book, but Sin City was seriously almost panel for panel, and had an awesome cast0

only small details and little things that only a narrator in a story could bring out. i thought it was pretty great i never saw da vinci code but i heard they butchered the movie in comparison with the book, as well as angels and demons.
push by sapphire (precious- the movie was called)
was also a good adaptation, again, left some things out, but i think it would have messed with the flow of the movie
the color purple was spot on0 -
The Lincoln Lawyer was practically verbatim to the book!!0
-
i like when a movie can compliment the book nicely.
for colored girls was spot on with the book as well...like VERY well done. kudos to tyler perry for that one because i really don't care for him that much
the golden compass was disappointing because they changed the ending. lame.0 -
I guess Bourne series is pretty good too!0
-
HBO changed a few things, but the Game of Thrones is pretty accurate.0

it's crazy, because when i say that to my friends/family i get a lot of backlash but i'm like..he makes the SAME movie, over and over again, and capitalizes off of stereotypes and minstrel characters. but then i'm just 'reading too much into it' apparently.0 -
"memoirs of a Geisha" was the first thing that came to my mind.
And I just love that book so very much.0 -

so beautifully written. i read it at least 3 times before the movie came out. the only reason i'm not reading it again is because i gave it to a friend. decided to share the wealth..though i may have to get another copy. one of my most favorites of ALL time0 -
The Hours.
Adaptation, from The Orchid Thief was a good one.
I liked Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, even though the critics did not. I'm sure there are many others I can't think of right now....0 -
The Green Mile, in my opinion is was very very close to what I imagined from reading the book.0
-
First thing that came to mind was how terrible The Horse Whisperer was butchered. The book ending was PERFECT, but apparently not good enough for the movie.
And I love that book, was so excited to see the movie. Most of it was filmed on my best friend's family ranch in MT, when I used to live there.0 -

sounds logical0 -
Okay I admit I try not to see movies of books I read--they always disappoint me, lol, and if I see the movie and never get around to the book!0

"To Kill a Mockingbird" is a really good adaptation. Also, there was a BBC production of "Jane Eyre" with Timothy Dalton that was very good.0 -

1984 wasn't bad either...0 -

The Shawshank Redemption. I was excited for The Mist, since Frank Darabont did such a great job with Shawshank, but I can't believe how they changed the ending. My husband hated the ending so much that I actually made him read the last few pages of the book.0
