Worked out hard and GAINED weight!! UGH!!

So I know that this could possibly happen but OMG...I worked out twice yesterday HARD, ate relatively well (not perfect) and I ended up weighing MORE today than yesterday.
Please someone reassure me that this is just my muscles/tissues retaining fluids - very sore today so I'm guessing it's workout related but MAN what a blow - I was feeling good about getting 2 good workouts yesterday, and worked out again today (lighter) and that good feeling has now disappeared thanks to the scale! :sad: Help!!! Should I drink more water??

Ive been doing cario workouts for the last 14 days and eating under my cal goal.. i weighed myself yesterday and ive GAINED 3lbs! Im hoping its the fat turning into muscle as ive only got approx 15lbs to reach my goal weight. It just seems so dam harsh to see the scales go up :grumble: x0 -
I have been having the same problem but I was told that it could either be water weight or it could be from muscle. Muscle is denser than fat and as you gain muscle, you will gain a little weight until the muscle starts burning fat Hope this helps! I'm struggling from the same issue!0

Yes, your muscles are retaining water. You won't see changes everyday, either, so as Sunshine suggests, don't weigh yourself everyday unless you can learn not to care what the scale says.

Fat does not turn into muscle and gaining muscle takes a very long time and is almost impossible if you are on a calorie deficit.0

weight will fluctuate each day. that's why you should only weigh yourself once a week and at the same time of day if possible. depending on my day and the time of the day I've had it vary by as much as 5 lbs.
you're doing amazing keep up the great work and quit watching the scale. remember at some point your body may not give you a weight loss but you'll loose inches. to me thats just as important or more important depending on what you're aiming for.

Correction, Im not changing fat to muscle, but gaining muscle ~ sorry. That they only reason i can think of. But as others say, weigh yourself every week not everyday. Hopefully you will see some difference soon0

I have been discouraged for the same reason. I have been working out (going from 0 exercise to 60-120 mins a day I figure is starting to get more activity in) and I have been trying to eat better. I have been over on calories a couple days but for the most part I have been doing well.
My profile says I lost one pound but I have gained that back plus some. Gained about 4 lbs since that weigh in. WHAT THE HECK!!! My food calories when I enter them each day say I should be 6-10 lbs lighter in 5 weeks but with 4 pounds gained I am starting to not believe this and I am losing motivation.
My MFP friends have been doing a good job encouraging me so far but I could use some more inpiration that will write to me and keep me going, to fight past the 4 pounds gained and to start dropping.0 -
Thanks everyone for the great advice/words. You'd think that just knowing this would make me feel better, but it's so discouraging that I kinda needed others to tell me that, too...you know? :flowerforyou:
And you're all right, I do need to stop weighing every day or every other day. I just get so anxious to see that scale go down that I can't stop myself...I really need to just pick a day/time of the week and stick to that as my weigh-in.
Meantime it does feel good to be sore (not a painful sore, but a real "I worked out" sore). Just want the scale to hurry up and catch up :bigsmile:0
