:embarassed: I have an appointment to see a dietician next week. Is anyone else getting outside help with this battle, or are you just doing it on your own? I have failed too many times on my own. I will just have to 'pay the bill'.

I'm doing Jenny Craig. It's expensive but it's worth it.
  • I'm doing it "on my own" - though since I am using myfitnesspal app, it's not exactly on my own. It (and other such smartphone apps) really has made the difference!
  • I was doing it by myself but then I added loads of friends on here so I don't feel like I am alone now

I'm wondering that same thing, what made you decide to go to a dietician? How did you pick one?

there are SO many ways to go about doing it alone and with "help." and doing it with help doesn't have to be expensive. it can be as easy as taking a trip to a farmers market or a whole foods store, or even just a plain old supermakert and really gettting to know what is out there to eat. there are people employed all over these kinds of stores (like whole foods/fresh markets) that can tell you the best or the healthiest things to eat. and just some basic knowledge like water is good for you, drink plenty of it, and stay away from alot of boxed foods if at all possible. just remember if it can go bad, then it's probably good for you. and finding a friend to help you have fun exercising or going to a free zumba class in your area. or walking at a local park. i'm saying all this to say that there are alot of outlets to healthy eating, and healthy lifestyle rather than being stuck to a rigid plan

I am totally on my own :) I used to powerlift... but kept gaining fat because of horrid eating habits! When I had to lay off the lifting for a year, my weight ballooned and I've been fighting it back down! Now I am thinner than I've been for YEARS! I was interested in taking a nutrition course online though!

I'm now doing it on my own ( with my MFP family). I tried getting help from my doctor and the dietician at my local hospital, but their help didn't seem very helpful - just told me things I already knew without dealing with my specific problems. So now I'm doing it my way, and it's working, but it's a long slow steady road.
  • Thanks to everyone for responding. It is very interesting and helpful to me to see the 'different sides/opinions' on how to tackle the weight battle.

@krohnie... The reason I scheduled an appt. with a dietician is b/c I went in for a health screening to be 1 in 10 ladies picked to be apart of this 12 week program at a local gym that is about heart disease prevention. Well, the nurse at the health screening pointed out that my results came back with a high triglyceride level and poor/ high cholesterol levels. To be considered at risk would be a ratio of 5.0. I was at a 4.7 ratio that day! Not good. I don' think that I've ever had test results come back bad like that before. The nurse suggested that I point this out to my doctor. My doctor said that I don't need any meds (which I didn't want anyway) and she suggested that I go see a dietician that she knows.

I don't know if I have been picked for the 12 week program, but we are supposed to find out this week.
