HCG Diet- Has anyone tried it?

Hello all! I've been hearing about this HCG diet/injections or drops. I am wondering if any of you have tried this and would be willing to talk to me about your experience with it. I'm nervous to try it but somewhat desperate!

Let me know!

I tried it. I was starving, my hair fell out, and I had zero energy. I wouldn't recommend it unless you do it under doctor supervision, and only then if you have a lot to lose.

Not to hijack the thread, but with only 20 lbs to lose you do not need a crash diet like HCG. With this diet you only get 500 cals/day and take pregnancy hormones. You are also advised not to workout as you don't have enough fuel on 500 cals/day.

I would suggest setting your goal at no more than 1 lb/week and eat all of your calories on MFP, slow and steady wins the race and in the end you will not lose nearly as much muscle as you would lose on HCG. So ask yourself, do you want to lose fat, or weight. If you want to lose fat the slower you lose the higher % of your loss will come from fat.

There are a lot of folks on MFP who show a lot of disdain for anyone who mentions a fad diet, particularly HCG. I'm not one of them, but I do believe that losing weight through natural foods and exercise is the best way. There are several issues that folks have mentioned with respect to using HCG (i.e., hair loss) that may or may not be worth it to you. Personally, since you only have a handful of pounds to lose, I would just keep doing the slow and steady method. Why tempt the side effects of HCG?

Hi, I tried it. I did loos weight and feel better. but found it boring and my a good portion of my hatr fell out. Even though the doctor was monitoring the diet and had a lost of supplements. This is my just my experience. Good Luck with FMP and the HCG.

You mention you are nervous about it. That may have something to do with it only allowing 500 calories a day. There is a reason you are nervous. It is dangerous. With 20 pounds to go, going natural is your best option, in my opinion....
  • i have a friend who did it, she lost 28 lbs super fast quit taking the drops and gained it all back equally as fast plus a couple extra. not to mention it is like torturing and starving yourself. and you can not eat like that forever so your best bet is do change ur lifestyle eat healthy meals and exercise. u don't need drugs to lose weight. good luck to u:)

I love these threads. They make me smile.
  • I am just completing my first 23 days on the HCG drops. It has been difficult at times, especially the weekends, to stick to the 500 calorie diet but if you are committed and follow the directions to a T, I believe you will have success. Even with a few struggles I have lost to date 19 lbs, and I still have 3 days to go. I average 1 lb a day. I have tried many many diets including Weight Watchers, 17 Day Diet, LA Weight Loss, plus more and I have found this the easiest to stick to because I see results everyday. When I am tempted by ice cream, cookies, chips, I just ask myself if I want to see another lb lost or a lb gained and it helps me to pass on the things that I would usually give in to. If you decide to give it a shot, I wish you the best of luck.

I had a friend try the diet and she lost weight. I was thinking about trying it myself.
  • My dad has been on this diet and had great results. I personally could not fit it to my lifestyle, however, and after two babies would not subject my body to the hormones. Nothing good, sans the babies, came out of me and high hormone levels. I'm not even nice on my estrogen but I digress. As you will hear 100 x over, the problem with these diets is the boomerang effect... you lose then you gain it back plus some and again and again. I watched my parents do this my entire life even long before I had a weight issue myself and would never attempt to "diet" only watch what I'm eating and exercise and count calories to increase the awareness of what I put in my mouth. I think that is why THIS works for me, I'm aware that those handfuls of chips or cookies add up pretty quick a lot more than I realized when I am forced to log them and add them up at the end of the day.

    Good luck whatever you decide.

Seriously, I think some folks just start up HCG threads to get boring Mondays started off with a bang.

Search is your friend then you will learn the consensus here is that the diet is crap for you.

    Desperation leads to poor choices.

There are pros and cons about this "Diet" and the pros comes from those who are staunch supporters of this madness and the cons from us with a bit of sanity and a lot less desperation.

This is a fire starter so the topic may get locked because the "H" word is not smiled upon by many and sacred to many others.

I would recommend you talk to a doctor, nutrionist and fitness trainer. Get past the desperation and get in the realization that this is a lifetime committment and quick fixes will not solve the issues between the ears (may need other specialist that deal with the mental aspect).

My FAVORITE part of HCG threads?

All the people testifying about how great it worked for them, yet they always seem to have 1 post to their name.

    Hmmm...

Here is a good thread on HCG. Essentially, you will lose weight but a large portion will be muscle loss, which will destroy your metabolism, can lead to issues with organs, hairloss, etc.. In my opinion, any diet plan that has side affects is not worth doing. I am assuming you are doing this pre wedding, my best advice, get a workout program like p90x, insanity or turbo fire. YOu can build muscle and lose inches and look 100 x better than with HCG.

It's bad news. Stay as far away from it as possible.

You would be just as succesful pouring your money down the drain and eating the 500 calories.

Eat right and exercise is the sensible and safe way to lose weight.

uh sweetie you're gorgeous and you're going to make a beautiful bride. You look very fit. And I'm sure you and your future husband would rather see a HEALTHY curvy bride rather than a skinny, malnourished bride with her hair falling out! Honestly we women put so much stress on ourselves to look like super models!!! Stop stressing and enjoy this time in your life! Exciting things are happening! Just eat healthy with sensible portions and exercise and you will be a healthy beautiful bride!

    Overweight people can't get married?

I did, but to be fair there was some paperwork involved, so maybe that was my waiver.

And here I thought I did it young because you had to be young and stupid to get married, now I know it was because I was still skinny. Just kidding!

You look gorgeous already and he will love you regardless if he's a smart man, but I understand wanting to be beautiful in your own mind for that special day but weddings are stressful enough take care of yourself.
