Welcome to MFP!!! The best tip I can offer is to log your meals BEFORE you eat them. This is really an eye-opener and helps you tweek your calories where/if you need to.:flowerforyou:

My big tip is this: ALWAYS LOG YOUR CALORIES! I'm a binger- I've gotten a lot better since MFP and I feel that I am gradually getting a better hand on it still. I found that when I logged my calories even when I knew I was going to be way over, I got back on track much faster than if I said "Oh I blew it today, I'm not even going to log them" The days I did that, I'd go over like two or three more days before I ever got back to the website. So bite the bullet, remember that one bad day won't kill you, and long that greasy meal or those 3 margaritas

I totally agree. The number one rule: Log your calories, even if you go over. Each time you do, count that as a success.
Rule number 2: Measure everything. With measuring cups, teaspoons, and scales, not with your eyeball.

    Here's a quick, fun book that's eye-opening:
Mindless Eating: Why we eat more than we think by Brian Wansink
It helps you think through your environment and habits so that you can mindlessly cut out calories, without feeling deprived.

    Good luck!

Ignore the default protein limit . As long as it's within 0.4g - 0.6g of protein per pound of weight, you're good to go.
