Quitting is NOT easy. I was lucky, I quit when I got pregnant and never looked back BUT its not easy. However it is the best decision you can do for your body and yourself! You have no idea how much better I feel since I quit! You can do it! We are here for you0

One day at a time!! It is the best decision you'll ever make! Get yourself a jar and start putting the money you would've spent on smokes into it...You'll find you will save a load of cash that you would otherwise have burnt literally!!

Find other things to occupy your mind and your fingers when you are in any situation where you would normally light up. Suck on sugar free candys. Drink LOTS of water.0

I am 1 year, 11 months, 2 weeks and 1 day SMOBER.. after being held captive by that nicodemon for over 40 years.. I stopped Cold Turkey and did not have a hard time ((My husband said I never became short with him or get frustrated.And he is a smoker)). Totally unexpected..It is what you make it.. I went to the becomeanex.org for support..I met alot of wonderful quit buddies that really helped. Best advise ever,,,,, NOPE...((( Not One Puff Ever ))) You can do this!! God Bless..0

You can do it-- try not to think that you'll never smoke again - that is pretty overwhelming.
Just think about going without one for today, or even this hour. You'll worry about tomorrow when it gets here.

I'm half way through week 3 of quitting and I already can't remember that last smoke, clealry smoking wasn't as great a I thought it was as there are lots of other things in these 3 weeks that I can remember. Just know that its the best decision you will ever make and keep going..... Good Luck0

I was going to suggest this, too! (Great minds think alike, right?) Put the money you would have spent on cigarettes in the jar (or better yet, a savings account so it will earn interest!) every week for a year. A year from now, take that money and do something to reward yourself. You might even have enough for a trip somewhere, or some fancy exercise equipment, or a downpayment on a car, or...the possibilities are endless!
You can do this. It won't be easy, but you have all of us MFPers rooting for you! You found the willpower to lose 50 pounds, so you can find the willpower to do this, too. I've known other smokers who have quit, and the journey was different for each one, but they all succeeded because they really WANTED it.

I quit cold turkey 2 years ago this January 1. I learned to crochet and chewed sugar free gum and was fine.

You know, several of the people I know who have quit said the hardest part was finding something to do with their hands. They were so used to having a cigarette in their hand, and they had to find something else to do with their hands to replace that. The OP should definitely look for something like that (not sure crocheting is the answer for a guy, but someone else suggested a punching bag!).0 -

I quit in April..after 30 years with the little devils. I always kept a bag of vitamin C drops near by for those cravings you get in the first week... after that.. I really was so happy with the recovery of my lungs, I dint want to smoke....YOU CAN DO IT!

Best of Luck.... what are you using, I recommend using some kind of aide, cold turkey is hard but you can do it either way. I am 8 weeks smoke free today and I think most nights I can actually breathe again!

I fully expect to hit my mini goal of 50 pounds lost tomorrow morning at my official weigh in. I told myself once I lost 50lbs it was time to make another life style change. well off to light up my last cig ever .... swallowing hard....

awesome! Congrats on the 50 pounds and the decision on a new lifestyle. I quit myself a while back. For me there was no weening myself off of them it was cold turkey! just walked away. For a while I stayed away from stores that I would usually buy them. put a sign on my front door that said No Smoking. chewing cinnamon gum or sucking on cinnamon candy helps the cravings a lot...dunno what it is about cinnamon but it's amazing! lol i also sucked on candy that would take me a long time to eat so my mouth would be busy for quite a while at a time. hope this helps.0

You are going to do and feel great. I am a former smoker, quit about 2.5 months ago. I feel amazing and can actually run in the first time in years. My biggest tip for you is to take a straw and cut it in the length of a cigarette. Never let it leave your hand until you feel ready0

Congrats!!!! I've been smoke free for 9 months today:) It's tough at times, but the cravings will pass. I used Blu e-cigs. Make sure you stick to your workout and eating plan. I sure wish I did! But I'm on back on track. Best wishes!0
