For people who does insanity workout and has a HRM how many calories do you usually burn? Whenever I enter it on here it say I only burn 258 calories. I just wanted to know if what MFP said I burned is around the same people with HRMs burn.

  • Depending on which workout I am doing I usually burn anywhere between 500-900 calories with Insanity...I burn around 200-300 on the "recovery" days.

I think it's important to have a HRM to know exactly what you are burning...because everyone is different.

HRM are set up specifically for each individual person based on you height and weight so they all may differ. It also depends on the intensity you are putting into your workout. I know before I bought mine while I was doing P90X I was estimating 450-500 per workout but then found out that on some exercises i was way over that amount. If you can afford one I would grab one because it is really nice not to have to guess at it. I purchased the one with a chest strap from Walmart for $50 and it works great for me.

Maybe someone close to your weight & height will be able to give you their numbers and help you out.
  • Not sure how long your Insanity workout is. I did P90X Plyometrics yesterday, which is almost 60 minutes and burned 530 calories. I'm 65 and my heart rate generally stayed 125 to 135. I have a friend who burns over 600 in an hour, but his heart rate will stay above 140. With the intensity of Insanity, as I understand it, you should proably be burning 250 to 300 in 30 minutes if you're really bringing it.

I'm just trying to get an estimate on how many calories people burn just to see if what MFP is close.

i really dont think it will be close.

I know alot of people are different but i try to stay as accurate as possible and not cheat myself on calories. If you cant get the HRM, see other ways.
  • I read that there is no "one size fits all' when it comes to calories burn,, two persons, same age, might be doing lap swim,, both swam the same speed, same number of laps,, they did that for 30 minutes .. Who burned more? The heavier person. The closer you are to your ideal weight, you need to do more to burn what you used to burn.
  • Every person will burn differently, thats why the HRM and you enter your weight, because what might be a hard work out for you might be easier or harder for others so it rates you... walmart carries them at a half way descent price. or look on line. if you want a more accurate calorie to weight burn use http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc but you need to try to get a monitor...
