I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one to post on these forums asking questions that could be answered by doing research. I thought the purpose of these forums was to have conversations and share experiences and knowledge?
I rarely post on here for this very reason.. for fear of being disrespected and made to feel stupid. I'm done. I wish people could just be nice. :ohwell:
You posted a topic you thought to be incorrect, because you aren't an idiot, in case of the possibility that this completely random source that goes against just about 99% of all other views could be correct. Then you get upset that people say no it's stupid info don't buy into it. Do you see the logic here? We aren't disrespecting you, you posted for peoples opinions and you got the peoples opinions. If you don't like said opinions you shouldn't ask for the opinions. If what we all posted on this topic hurt your feelings then internet message boards are not for you. You will get peoples 100% non-sugar coated answer on them, they aren't going to hold back or pull any punches.
You posted a topic that you yourself said you knew probably wasn't true, what did you expect to us all go.. OMG, you have gave us the holy grail of knowledge. Everything that we know and have been taught is false and wrong. I am so glad that you found the one article to save mankind from whey protein. You aren't a stupid girl so when you read something that sounds stupid, it probably is. Trust yourself more! Your gut instincts will be right more times then not when judging information. No one can make you feel stupid but yourself and you don't seem like a stupid person.
No where in my original post did I ask for opinions on the article. My main objective and the conclusion to my post was asking if anyone else had read/heard anything bad about consuming whey protein. Finding that article was what made me wonder about this.. so I decided to share it.
It's not people's opinions that make me feel disrespected, but the WAY that they choose to express those opinions. I guess I don't appreciate the sarcasm and obnoxious pictures and the "tough guy" attitude that yourself and others have on these boards. I asked a question about a topic that was brought to my attention by a website I stumbled upon. Simple as that. There is no reason to lecture me on how to go about doing research. Ugh. Over it.
Again, thanks to those of you who actually understood my concerns. And thank you to those of you who sent me messages because you were too nervous to post on the board and being on the receiving end of this negativity.
Tough guy? An easy going attitude is far from a tough guy.. Secondly someone pitched how to do research on an article. That shouldn't be insulting to you. They were trying to help. No one here said, you are stupid. They pitched how to make sure an article was legit, you are a newer member and low post count, so it would be easy to assume you might not know how to verify research.0 -
About the only "bad" thing I've seen about some protein shakes is that some had higher levels of metals. Muscle Milk was one of them. So when I finished that bag, I switched to Gold Standard Whey0

Can I ask a legitimate question? Are you lifting a lot? What is making you take the whey powder over getting it naturally from your diet? I am just curious as usually whey protein is taken by those you are lifting quite a bit. I have always been told, even by my dr. and nutritionist that if you aren't lifting a lot the powder will give you protein but you could very easily add that protein by your diet naturally. Also protein naturally will help you bulk which will cause the scales the tip the other way. You don't seem to be going over on your protein at all so I don't think it will cause anything. I'm asking about the lifting and etc because looking at your diary I don't see any exercise being logged. More then anything I'm just curious.
I decided to try adding whey to my diet because I am on a low carb program and it was suggested to me that I get more protein. I don't eat meat (I do eat fish and eggs) so this is a good way to supplement my protein intake.
Makes complete sense! I was just curious. I know some people who take whey and bust it in the weight room and they are like.. WHOA why am I gaining weight.0 -

It is my choice to continue eating my whey protein but I will continue (as I have been doing) to have it in moderation. How is that unbelievable? Nothing in excess is good for you. I am going to keep doing what I've been doing. Your criticism makes no sense.0 -

Yeah, it had "higher" levels. Which is in the larger context of things, probably nothing worry about unless we are dowing like 10 shakes a day or something. Not like I was going to throw away what I had. But if there are other choices w/o the high metals levels, might as well make a better choice. (like you and I did).
I'm actually doubling up my whey protein scoops to up my protein. I need to see if that will alleviate my sorness quicker from the lift sessions.0 -
Hi! I am new on here but def not new to dieting/struggling with weight ! I have all my life but in 2005 I had Gastric Bypass, I have to say that this was best for me, i had recently had 2 deathd in my immediate family & was put on paxil. I swear in a matter of 1 month, I was packing on the pounds but was so distraught & just wanted to make it through the day.
I have lost 150 lbs mainly using WHEY PROTEIN, I do know that is true that you cannot heat it past a certain temp, I will look it up when I get home BUT I do have it like hot chocholate so I would check on that. Another thing is your body cannot digest more than 30 grams of protein at a time, also if you do not drink it within 15 minutes, it starts to break down as well. As for it being toxic, don't believe it or at least I'm not dead yet & have never been healthier. Most GP people aren't as successful as I have been, it is very uncommon to lose that much weight & keep it off! Please don't think I'm bragging because those battles are still there, I just refuse to ever go "there" again. I went through 2 1/2 years of constant battle between insurance & Dr's to gain it all back, I still have to exercise 4-5 days a week for about an hour of cardio but also lots of strength training, squats,sit ups, push ups...etc!
Losing weight is never easy but it is necessary to have a good quality of life or an active one.
I have a question about when adding strength training to your daily log, how do add it so you can get credit for it like in cardio exercise???0 -

Wow.. can't believe I'm even responding to this.
I didn't imply that I am continuing to consume whey protein.. I stated in plain English that I will continue to have it. I am clearly not "SCAAAARED" of it. I will continue to enjoy why protein in moderation not because I am scared of it but because that's how I approach new foods/substances that I'm not entirely familiar with or that I have never had.

Sooo, after all of this and finding myself really cold after having dropped my morning caffeine routine in exchange for juice, I decided to try an experiment. I had previously successfully dumped some chocolate whey in my coffee and it was quite tasty. Today, I decided to put boiling hot water in instead... um.... don't. That bit I wrote about hot water and whey is the start of cheese. Well it is for sure true, I thought maybe since it has other things in it too! It was really gross!0
