So I have been sitting here staring at the screen - knowing I need to reach out but was scared. So here goes......

I have lost about 30 lbs (20 prior to finding MFP), Quit drinking (almost 1 yr ago), Started working out - LOVE hot power yoga!!!!

Now the rub - I want to QUIT SMOKING!!!!
I have noticed over the past few weeks I have naturally cut down (normally a pack a day) and now I'm making a conscience effort to quit - Its almost 11am (got up at 6am) and I've only had 1.5 cigs.

I've left them in my car, told my co-workers my plan and I'm watching the clock and bargining with myself about when I can go out to have one.

Just need a little support and encouragement

Thanks xoxooooxoxoxoxx

It's really hard to quit smoking.. this coming from a smoker myself. My cut off date is going to be November 15, 2011. This is due to me getting braces finally and having 7 teeth taken out all at once and not wanting dry socket. Plus.. who wants to smoke anyways? It stinks, your hair and clothes stink, your car reeks and you will be able to run harder and workout better once you stop smoking.

I had a friend that smoked over a pack a day every day and he decided to try the electronic cigarette. Within three days of just using that, he quit. Hasn't had the urge to smoke a real one and hasn't in over a year. He actually HATES the smell of them and finds it disgusting. He still smokes the electronic ones, but hardly needs to do that anymore either.

Good luck.. I know from quite a few people that using the e-cig they have quit a lot easier than anything else. Goodluck!
  • :flowerforyou: At the age of 43, my sister quit smoking. She has been smoke free for 10 years. And she did it at at time of upheaval - bad marriage, divorce, etc. You can do this. BELIEVE. Focus on your motivation, whatever or whoever it is. When you feel your brain going to a negative place, fill it with positive thoughts.

Way to go...it's a big step, but well worth it! Starting is definitely one of the hardest parts. I wasn't a smoker myself, but I've helped several friends stop, so I know how difficult it is.

You might want to check - most states have a hotline for smokers that want to quit. It can be a great resource when you are feeling like smoking when you shouldn't - just call, and someone will try to help you.

Some states even pay all or part of the cost for products like the patch or gum.

My sister-in-law swears by this site :http://www.becomeanex.org/
She had smoked for years and years and it helped her quit and stay quit. Good luck! :)
  • I used to smoke and I found the best way to quit is to just stop buying them! You'd think it was too simple to work but it really worked for me. My neighbor used to smoke too and when she quit she kept the ashtray she had outside and everytime she wanted to smoke she would go smell that nasty ashtray....talk about motivation!

I just quit August 9th after 30 years. I had quit before for months at a time, but this time was different. If you are really ready - and I mean honestly wanting to stop and not forcing yourself to believe you want to stop - it will be no problem. The worst of the physical withdrawal is over in about 72 hours. So if you start on Monday, by Thursday you'll feel like a human again.

It is no different than any of the other lifestyle changes that you've made. You can do it ... Good luck!
