How can I get more will power?

I'm really serious about losing weight but I'm so stupid about letting other people persuade me to indulge. Today I've just had a slice of cake that I didn't even really want. Now I've added it into my food diary I've completely scuppered today's intake. What a twit! It's not like I don't know any better. Why do I let others influence me so much? Anyway I'm off to try and redeem myself a bit in the swimming pool.
Feeling foolish.

Self control is something you can train... just keep it up and don't give up

There is a magic word for that, NO! You can do it.0

Try making lists of your goals and putting them around the house ( for example on the fridge etc)
Include why you want to lose weight , then when you go to cheat , you see exactly what your cheating on!0 -
read my will power blog below and do the activity in it. whenever you are tempted to indulge, review the list(s) that you create from creating your will power pill.0

Its in the past now, there is NOTHING you can do about it. Try to let it go.
Learn from it if you can so that it doesn't happen again.
There is no point in beating yourself up about it (also you had a cake...didn't murder anyone!)0 -
It's not just about willpower. Sometimes there are things other than a lack of willpower holding you back. I HIGHLY recommend you read this book http://www.amazon.com/Change-Anything-Science-Personal-Success/dp/0446573914/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320414480&sr=8-1 and or create a change plan on http://www.changeanything.com/.0

Don't feel foolish. Think of today as the day you learned something about yourself. You will find you will learn a lot about yourself during this time. The fact you are going to earn back your calories at the pool is HUGE! That is the right kind of thinking! I am proud of you.0

Try pre-logging your food each day so you know how much room you have for surprise treats! I have a coworker that bakes and I literally take the smallest sliver you can cut without smashing the whole pie...just enough for a taste and it doesn't ruin my day!0

Find something that you REALLY want that you can only achieve at your goal weight. For example, mine is to be a sailor for the U.S. Navy. I was 20lbs over weight and I've gotten to the BMI I wanted and I hopefully will be going to my physical soon. But the last three months sucked. I am going to be completely honest.
I love cupcakes. On day 21 of my diet, there were three dozen cupcake-bakery cupcakes brought into work. I literally stared at them in the kitchen and thought to myself, "well how much is one-half?" then the other side of me said "it doesn't matter, what do you want more? The Navy or that cupcake?"
My dad was overweight and his goal - as silly as it may be - would be to ride the sky coaster with me or my younger sister. You know that one where they wrap you up like a barrito and drop you with just a cord holding you? Anyway there is a weight limit for that as well.
Look into WHY you want to lose weight. Do you want to be able to wear certain clothes, look good in a bikini next summer? Whatever goal you want for yourself that you have to lose weight to obtain, set it today. Then everytime temptation - or peer pressure starts you ask yourself what do you want more?0 -
I have decided to have a family picture taken in January, to me nothing is more motivating than the threat of a picture LOL
Set a goal, It will help w/ willpower

I hate to say this but you almost have to look at people like that as the enemy. They are part of what got you to the situation you're in now. So as you look at how to lose weight, not only are calorie dense foods like that an enemy that must be managed, so are the people who would try to get you to partake of those foods. You have to treat them as such. I'm not suggesting you be unfriendly, but when they push you, sometimes you have to be willing to be firm with them and take a stand. Tell them in no uncertain terms that what they're offering you doesn't fit your plan and that you're committed to losing the weight.
I think many if not all of us have had to deal with people like that. I don't know if it's jealousy or what but there are always people who seem to take great pleasure in knowing they got you to break from your diet. Don't let them get one over on you. Take control, it's your life not theirs. Don't let them manipulate you and control you or you'll never reach your goals. Be friendly at first, but if they won't take a simple no for an answer, it's time for you to get tough with them. If they don't like your stronger tone, tough **** for them, they picked the fight not you.0 -
Willpower comes from within you, how bad do you want it, is the real question???0

Wow! Thanks for all your responses everyone. It really helps. There's a lot of good advice there and I'll be taking it. I was just feeling so cross with myself for messing my own plans up. Part of my problem is that I haven't had too much of a problem with weight in the past. I managed to lose my baby weight twice with WeightWatchers. But I have put on two stone over two years despite increasing my exercise level vastly. I can't fit into my clothes! And it's not all muscle even though I am more toned. I have excess fat all around my waist and hips which is driving me crazy. Actually I suppose I ought to be grateful I've only gone up one dress size considering how much extra weight I've put on. Anyway I'm in my mid-40's and they say that it gets harder to lose weight. You can say that again.
Oh well, enough moaning. I am healthy and have a loving family who love me just as I am. I am also much fitter than I ever was and I have really grown to love my sports. It's not going to stop me trying to lose this weight but maybe I should stop beating myself up about it. Good luck everyone!0 -
I always have a "GOAL OUTFIT!" One that I think I will look good in and really want to wear but is to small. You have to make it a reasonable goal. Don't pick an outfit that will fit once you lose all the weight, pick one that is obtainable within a one-three month radius. It really does work.0
