Is alcohol ok??

I usually drink one day on the weekend and record them in my diary, I've had nights when I had 1,000 calories from alcohol, but you know what, it's life and I only do it once a week if that. Usually the two days following my drinking I see the scale is up a litle bit but it comes back down by weigh in day. This past weekend I didn't drink and I still had the same kind of loss I would have after a weekend that I did drink which actually surprised me a little. *Cheers*0

Oh and I should probably add that on the day (usually Friday) that I am going to be drinking I make sure to keep my calories low and to get in a workout!0

Anything in moderation is ok in my opinion. Vodka & Gin with diet tonic or club soda with a lime wedge is my drink of choice. It is low in calories and takes fewer of them to get my buzz.
I think this is a lifestyle change so unless you want to give it up for the rest of your life, don't feel guilty, just do it in moderation and try to work out harder the day of drinking and the day after. Tonight I am going to have a few drinks & I will make sure I log them into my calories and have a salad for dinner.0 -
I know that you're not suppose to drink while trying to lose weight, but I do on Fridays. I allow myself a couple of beers with friends. But I do notice that I crave junk when I drink. Just try not to go overboard with drinking. If you're still losing, then I don't see a problem.
Really...I must have missed that memo....lol. I have been drinking along this journey. It isn't something I'm willing to give up.
Yep, same here. I drink alcohol (beer at that, sometimes in fair quantities at the weekend) and have still managed to lose weight; I just tend to exercise to make "room" for the calories (and don't get tempted to eat cr*p when i'm drinking)!0 -

Why are you not supposed to? If you are trying to hit certain goals - like trimming down for a competition or something, then it would not be beneficial. When I ran distance - our coach encouraged us to have a beer the night before. Alcohol can be a healthy part of a diet in moderation - just like anything else.0 -
The Answer to this question is always yes.
^^ this
(p.s. this is why we're friends. just fyi.)0 -
You will lose faster if you don't, HOWEVER, this is always a personal choice. When I started my journey I knew it would take longer to reach my goals because I like the taste of beer. It is my treat. Some people like chocolate ... not me, I am an IPA guy. So, I did hit plateaus longer but I kept pushing forward AND enjoyed my beer (although I did cut way back - down to around 4 or 5 a week now). Just know that those empty calories will make it harder to get the flat stomach.
So, decide for yourself if you are willing to take longer to reach your goals.0 -
I think that contributed to my weight gain. I'm back to a little on the weekend or special occasion. Wine calories add up sooo fast!:grumble:0

LOl, so I think the overwhelming response is that I'm not doing badly hahaha! Like I said I drink maybe once or twice a fortnight, and I drink Jack Daniels which has approx 80 calories on its own, and I have it with Coke Zero which has approx 2 calories per serve, so I think I'm doing ok
And I dont plan on not drinking forever so a few people have made an excellent point, I need to learn to have it in moderation and monitor how many 'extra calories' I am putting into my system
again thanks for all the input, am not feeling so guilty now0 -
have you not seen how many calories are in alcohol these days?!
Depends on what your drinking. My drink of choice these days is a "skinny margarita" recipe posted on these forums. it's delish and the only calories in it is the tequila.0 -
just keep drinking more, then eventually you wont even care :drinker:0

For me, alcohol falls in the same category as other "empty" calories. How does it mesh with my meds? Have I eaten "my right" balance and amount of protein, carbs and fat for the day? Is it what I really want to do with my empty calories? Depending on my answers, I may or may not chose to have a drink on a given day or at a given event. However, I don't feel guilty about either choice.0

You should not feel guilty but I would limit myself to once a month if I were you. I did some fitness challenges and one of the main NOs were NO alcohol. The fact that it does have empty calories is the reason it can take a negative effect on your workouts. Certain types of drinks also has sugar in them. So unless you are making your drinks at home you could be drinking more calories and sugar than you realize.0

Wow - I feel like an alcoholic compared to some of y'all haha. I drink almost every day, assuming I have the calories for it. A glass of white wine or a light beer to enjoy with my dinner. I've made little changes because I know that this has to be part of my lifestyle, and my lifestyle involves drinking, so have to make the best of it. If we go to a Mexican restaurant I forgo the massive margarita for a couple corona lights. On Sundays, when we all get together to watch football, I stick with Miller Light or Michelob Ultra. You just have to think before you order.0

I absolutely include it...if you can burn it, you can have it! No guilt, a little or a beer a couple of beers here and there are ok in my book! As long as you "drink responsibly", it's all good, so enjoy!0

No offense, but it's the same amount of calories that have always been in alcohol. It's all the fruit juices and mixers that make the entire "drink" sometimes higher in calories. The amount of calories per gram of certain proofs of alcohol is unchanged.0 -
is alcohol ok?
No, it's not ok.
it's WONDERFUL.
Be accurate in recording its calorific content .
Beware the post drinking disinhibition which might see you stuffing your face with all the delicious snacks you have been strenuously avoiding.0 -
You will lose faster if you don't, HOWEVER, this is always a personal choice.
I've lost 44.4 pounds in 11 weeks and I have not removed alcohol (or anything else) from what I'm allowed to consume. Some people would already say that I'm losing faster than I should be. You can't use that as a blanket statement for everyone. Everyone is different and it's all about working it in and moderation. Do what works for you and don't assume everything works the same way. I seriously doubt I'd be losing faster if I removed alcohol. When I have it it's not in addition to my normal daily meals, it's worked in.0 -

You are a woman after my own heart!!!! LOL Love it!0 -
So, is it bad that I skip a meal just to be able to drink more?0
-
alcohol is empty calories and those alone won't pack on weight. What empty calories do though is make your brain think that your hungry which is where all those empty pizza boxes came from on the floor of the dorm room back in the college days. Alcohol also block your muscles from absorbing nutrients, so you can workout for 8 hours and take all the supplements you want, but if you get drunk that night then you threw that hard work right out the window and it'll take a few days for your muscles to recover from that. I'm not saying that I don't like to drink beers once in a while because I do, but moderation is key.0

I never feel guilty drinking alcohol...0

Alcohol is only ok for me. Please send me all your booze.0

it is fact that alcohol does a lot of bad things that impede your weight loss. You will lose more weight faster if you do not drink.
The true key to any choice you make in this journey is that you learn to make heather choices that you can stick to for the rest of your life. Losing more weight in the short term is pointless if you can't keep it off. Much of success with weight loss is making better bad choices and striking a balance. So having one rum and diet is much different that four white Russians. It is a better bad choice
So restrict your drinking to a level that is healthy, does not cause you to go over your calorie goal, and that you are willing to live with for the rest of your life. If you are unable / unwilling to do this then you should consider quitting drinking.0 -
I'm not a big drinker so when I have one or two I don't feel guilty over it. If I'm working out I'm also not to worried about going over my daily calorie goal. Everything in moderation!0

... but I feel super guilty!
Solution- drink until you don't feel guilty... or you don't feel your face, whichever comes first!0 -
the only time alcohol is NOT okay is when you're dead.0
