What am I doing to myself to cause this?

I had a really weird episode this week where I blacked out and took a face plant to the carpet. After the inital fall I had issues getting back to a coherant state of mind. I know that I have times of dizzy spells when getting up from the bed or a chair, but this one was more than just a dizzy spell. I went to the ER and all they could find was that I had a Bladder infection, which does not explain this issue at all. I do not have any symptoms of a bladder infection. I am really having a hard time wrapping my mind around what could be the cause of my blackout. It is affecting me in more ways than I think it should. I am almost scared to exercise for fear that some of my issue is exercise induced or that I will have an episode during the exercise. I just have this overwhelming blah feeling that I can not seem to shake. The EMT's and ER Dr. did blood work and my blood sugar was fine as well as my blood count. The only thing that relates is low blood pressure, but they did not seem to concerned with it. I have a Dr. apt on Monday and if anyone has any suggestions for discussion with the Dr. I would greatly appreciate it.

Low blood pressure? Not drinking enough water would cause this AND a bladder infection too. Drink more water, stay hydrated. I used to have both these symptoms and this recurs when I do NOT stay hydrated. You probably need a lot more than you think. Probably have lots of diuretics in your diet such as caffeine or potentially undercooked starchy foods? Coffee, tea, diet cola, lots of sugar, lots of exercise, too "al dente" veg, rice, pasta etc. Try adding a little more sodium/salt...not much more... especially if you're exercising lots.

Still, see a doc if you're still worried but see how you get on with my suggestions too.

I had several seizures during my life I am 30 yrs. old now and havent had one since I was 16. My son would stop breathing and get stiff as a board , thank god he grew out of that ! I am wondering if it was a seizure? All seizures are different , some people blackout and feel really tired or out of it when they come to. have you been eating a lot less lately? I had a seizure when I was 12 because I thought I was fat (skinny as hell) and didnt eat all day. Maybe your dr. visit will help you figure out what happened

Just to clarify... I have low blood pressure, worse when dehydrated massively, also, forgot to mention, had slightly low iron levels, not anaemic but not enough to give blood and this makes me feel dizzy too. Try eating iron enriched foods with vitamin c such as orange, lemon juice etc , so spinach flavoured with orange or lemon juice is great ( try orange juice with some pine nuts on wilted spinach...delicious!) and OJ or some fruit juice with fortified cereals!

I sometimes wpuld wake up, get out of bed and stand up and instantly my vision would dim, tunnel and black, I'd be weak and fall to the floor, get up and be fine ish, feel a bit shaken, after rehydratng and staying rehydrated I'd be OK.

Dizzy spells when you stand up are due to a drop in your blood pressure which is very common and not something you need to worry about too much. Your collapse was probably due to a combination of this and a urine infection - they often don't cause symptoms and people collapse from them all the time. The chance of it being a seizure is miniscule. You should be fine exercising just don't go from lying to sitting to standing really quickly and make sure you don't get dehydrated and if it happens again go back to ED or your GP.
