I have been doing so well, I decided to have Fish & Chips from the Chip shop after a long day at work. Can anyone tell me approximately how many calories there are in this meal?

Did you look in the database? You'll probably need to use your best guesstimate since we have no idea what the portion size was.
  • Depending on how big the portions are, I allow at least 1200 cals for a large cod and chips. It always best to over estimate. Enjoy :flowerforyou:

A lot probably. Especially if the fish was fried / battered. :s

    20 bazillion.
I'm lying, but that's your punishment for making me start thinking about Fish and Chips!
1 piece and 4 oz of fries look like about 400-500 Calories, according to the database

I looked up a lot when i had fish and chips...several sites, weighed the chips etc and decided on 600 calories. I've only done it a 3 times in 405 days including tonight

I had fish, chips and calamari for dinner last night!
I asked for the fish to be grilled, which knocked it down by a HUGE number of calories, let me tell you.

Battered Cod: 3oz is 140 Cal
    Grilled Cod: 3oz is 70cal.

I had half a serve of chips, which was 197cal and estimated about 3oz of calamari which was 220 cal :)

Can be done, I'd choose grilled - fish had more flavour that way, anyway!

For those who are wondering what the difference is between the east and west side of the Atlantic fish & chips...

Fish & Chips in the UK (actual size is 4x larger):

Fish & Chips in the U.S. (Actual potion size shown here):

For heaven's sake! Britain, come over here and show our country how to do this right please >_<

Yes. Good ol' small cod 'n' chips is one of the healthier fast food meals, compared to say a chicken madras, pizza, kfc, etc.

I recall seeing something stating it was circa 550 cal, which is less than my normal evening meal! But, it's the old portion size thing again.

I wonder how much was in my old chippy staple of Fried Chicken leg, large chips, and 2 battered sausages? Then ofc my usual evening meal later that night on top... :blushing:

Sorry to say but it's about 900 calories for a large cod & standard portion of chips!

If it was 550 I would eat it far more regularly :)

It's going to be probably over 1000. More likely in the region of 1200. Look on pub websites calorie info and you'll see what I mean...

Well I love fish and chips myself, but I've seen portions of french fries that end up at 500 calories just themselves, so I tend to stay away. That said, enjoy! 3 times in 405 days is fine! Lol.
  • The fish and chips meal from the Harvester restaurant is 940 calories, so I'd say at least 1000 from a chip shop. I hope it was nice, I'm very jealous!
