Mother-in-law... She thinks I 'took her son away for good' and often cuts my cooking down (its all made from scratch, and Im a chef for crying out loud!), had the BALLS last year to sit at my Thanksgiving table and criticize what I prepared. Her son told her point-blank "You are insulting my wife and her cooking!!!"

Just yesterday she came over to ask if there was any mail for her (she is 'using' our address until she moves into her new apt), I told her that we dont get any mail until after 3pm... she said "Well, Ill just go over and look".. I told her "Excuse me, NO, I WILL GO LOOK, you DONT live here!"...

Of course I was right, no mail... it was 12:45pm when she came over.. she walked over and I told her, you will have to call us after 3pm because the mail-guy doesnt come this early... She didnt like hearing that, but tough s***!!!

Tries telling me what to do in my home, "you should do this" and "it would be better if you did it the way Ive done it before" - and I flat out tell her, this is OUR HOME, NOT YOUR HOME, we will do things the way WE see fit....

Im not afraid to put her in her place because she is just downright overly dependent on her son, and he is very pissed off that at age 56, she cant get her **** together... he has told her many times to back off, or sorry, you are on your own....

    Very invasive....
  • I did, she was horrible! She said I was trapping her son for money by getting pregnant and that my kids were demon spawn because two were born out of wedlock. (He wasn't working and I was at the time). She shoved a kitchen table accost the floor at my pregnant belly. When my husband cheated on me she asked me what I think I might NOT be doing in the bedroom that would cause him to stray. I am divorced how but still have to deal with her. We had three kids. My advice is don't let your hubby alow your MIL to trat you without respect. It eventually killed our marriage and caused 10 years of pain between us. It his mom and he needs to put her in check not you.

My mother-in-law thinks I'm a horrible person because her son and I have decided not to have children. She thinks I'm 'unnatural'. We're polite and formal with one another on the occasions we must socialize, but I wouldn't say we're friendly.
  • I have had people ask me if she was an alcoholic because of her behavior. My favorite quote ever came from a friend visiting. We were sitting on my porch when my MIL came and yelled at me for bringing her the incorrect tool she needed. the quote was "If that was MY mother in law I would shoot myself in the f***ing head!" This friend doesn't swear. lol Priceless!
  • During this season, be thankful for what you DO have. I will never have the mother-in-law experience due to my significant other losing his mother to a very brief battle of cancer (2 months) when he was just 19.
  • Im sorry you have in-laws from hell, i cant relate. When it came to the MIL lottery I won the Grand Prize. She's sweet & loving & fun. As a matter of fact hubby & the boys are away on a camping trip this weekend and she's coming to my house for a girls nite with me & my youngest daughter (17)

I got one for you,my husbands step mom. Me an my husband have a daughter together, and I have a son from a previous relationship, but my husband is the only dad hes ever known. So when ever we took pictures we would send them copys.Last time we were out their house I noticed one of the pictures on the fridge but she cut me and my son out of the picture so it was only my daughter
  • OMG so familiar!!!My mil was so dependent that when she delivered mail on her rout at least once a week she would call for gas to be delivered on her rout because she didnt have time to fill up in the AM. She drives for a living! How do you not gas up before your daily rout!! To make matters worse she was our mail carrier and would skip our house to hurry for lunch! I would find my mail in her car on the floor board. If you didnt answer the phone you better call right back or she will be here in 10 min. One day I was recording my Friend Cliff and his daughter showing up. You see me video taping him reaching the property and you hear my phone. Then you hear me say "Isaac its your mom call her right now or she will be here" Then I continue recording my fiends arrival. Next you hear another car and my camera swing up the drive. MIL car is coming up the drive. The you hear me say "oh ****" then you get a view of the ground as I walk back inside

When my son was born, my MIL had the balls to scream all the way down the corridor at the hospital "they've got the wrong name on that baby" and when she got to our room, the nurses were all panicked and my husband rushed to the nursery, then it dawned on him that duh, what was she thinking, it was the first time she had seen him, how did she know it was the wrong baby? As it happened, my mother, step-father, grandmother, aunt, and best friend were in the room too and she's ranting, and just as my husband comes back into the room she leans over to me and says that if my son dies of crib death it will be all my fault for not watching him close enough. Really? She had a lot of balls, and my mother promptly removed her from the room, followed by FIL and husband who took them back to the nursery to admire the new baby, which they just would not accept so he asked them to leave. Then she calls my mother in the middle of the night and tells her what a horrible mother I am, like she would know since they refused to come visit! A few years later we were in a situation with his parents and they were really ragging on me, in front of our son who was 3 at the time, and they told him to get rid of me. You know what? We have been married 32 years and the lesson I learned through all of this is that if you are a crazy b***h you will be treated like one, but the most important lesson I learned from her is how NOT to be a Mother-in-law from hell. God rest her soul, she needs it.

I commend anyone who chooses NOT to have children.... that is NO ONES business to determine the 'why-not'... I have a good friend from high school who both her and her husband just dont want any kids... I dont know what their reasoning is, but it doesnt matter.... They are great people who know what is right for them, and that's all that matters!

    Kudos to your choice!!!

My mother in law was the best I could have hoped for....

we hated each other at first.... I was a stuck up 16yr old when we met and thought I had the answers.... she was a crazy old bat who really DID have the answers...... thank god we had a massive fight one day in a row boat in the middle of the lake lost both oars in the process and ended up laughing our *kitten* off and being best friends till the day she died........ I miss her every single day and it's been 17 years since we last laughed together

I haven't always gotten along with my in-laws. They are the most passive-aggressive people I know and for the first several years after my oldest was born, we did NOT get along. But, we've managed to put aside our differences and now I feel very lucky to have them. They are always there when we need them and they are amazing, devoted grandparents. Nowadays, I actually enjoy their company... something I thought would never be possible.
