That we learned to spell. I LOVE MFP and all of you wonderful people, so I'm going to share some wisdom that my favorite TA shared with us :D

Where's that adorable "beating a dead horse" emoticon???
  • Lol! So true xD I see these all the time!

I think I am guilty of the "its or it's" simply because I am too lazy to add in the apostrophe to most words xD

Was it in the drawer right next to the grammar complaint?

There's some kind of romantic notion that piss-poor grammar and illiteracy is justifiable because this is the internet. :ohwell:

Yeah... I wish they would have consulted the rest of us =/
I don't know why, it just makes me cringe when I see "your the best!" and things to that extent.

Also, any "Friends" fanatics out there?
I always hear Ross yelling "Y-O-U- Apostrophe- R-E means YOU ARE. Y-O-U-R means your!"

    Love that show :)

Honestly I would really like to learn to spell, but since it hasn't happened yet, I'm not holding my breath.

oh yeah! I forgot the Alot was H&1/2. They're both equally awesome. As soon as I realized Hyperbole was a chick, I thought they should get together and birth some more comic genius.

I love this, although I'm guilty of a few that I can just never grasp.
"Definitely" being the main problem, I nearly always spell it with an "a" - I also just noticed I spelt it that way just typing this out! (thanks spell check!)
I also get confused over effect/affect sometimes, and always spell a lot "alot" To me it looks odd with the space.

I make a lot of spelling mistakes... that's why I adore spell check! It's the grammar ones that can't be fixed with spell check that make life difficult =/

LOL That was "alot" of fun! Oops, I made a faux paus! I wish they would have had "seen" & "saw" I still use them wrong, I'm sure!
And the "literally"... OMG I want to send this to my friend! She says this, literally, a dozen times an hour! Drives me crazy!! And she's an ENGLISH TEACHER!!! Ugh!

Thank heaven for spell chick! I will never spell "definitely" correctly! (I don't put an "a" in there, I add an extra "e" in there! Bad spelling in one of my peeves.

Wow! I can't imagine your friend standing up in front of a class and talking like that... I don't think I would be able to keep a straight face!

I think whoever decided "definitely" should be spelled that way should "definitely" be smacked in the face with a sock full of butter.

The thing that helped me with "definitely" is that there's a "finite" in there. And when you think about it, if something is definitely X then you're saying the finite number of things it can be is limited to X. I used to always put the errant a in definitely but I'd never do it in finite so that worked.

I was so pissed when I caught myself at work typing loose instead of loose. Totally from MFP.

What gets me here is that I'm on my phone which makes errors easy and editing difficult.

It is so much harder typing on my phone! And autocorrect seems to make everything worse. I was trying to type "joy" at one point and it "corrected" it to "philharmonic". What?!
