I took a 2 week break at maintenance level and then went back on a 250 calorie deficit and LOST (after almost 2 months stuck at my previous weight - 5'8 weigh in today 156.0) - and I lost eating 2200 - 2600 calories.

I had been fluctuating between 157.5 and 160 for about 2 months. I didn't weigh myself during the break because I didn't want to get discouraged if I had a gain and i knew with the increase in carbs it would probably be a little higher - holding onto water, etc.
Last saturday I weighed in at 160.9, today I was 156.0. That puts my BMI at 23.7 - trying to get to BMI of 21.7 (143). I also want to get my Body fat checked because I have quite a bit of muscle. It's slow going at this point, but I'm so happy this diet break thing worked because it was so fun, and I like eating more0 -

I actually have been doing this since the 18th of this month for a vacation. Yesterday, I "jumped" back on board.

Interesting article!...I'm planning to take a break over Xmas when I get to half way point ..I'm only a few pounds off now...then planning to restart after Xmas with new fitness games that I'm not used to, in the hope that I'd burn more with a new exercise routine.0

I am a very dedicated to weight loss. I have hit a plateau. Not sure if it's the food that I eat or the amount of exercise. I stay under my daily calories -500 for weight loss. My progress has been outstanding. I have lost -22 lbs of fat in 9 weeks and gained +10 lbs in muscle, bone and water retention. I am assuming that it is because of my gain in my body structure.
I start to ruthlessly cleaning up my diet. After work I would get fast food. Trying to eat the healthiest I could. I wiped that out. I only ate clean food.
I decided to quit alcohol for a bit just to strengthen the body and calorie count.
I eat most of my carbohydrates and before the gym.
I switched my work out routine and ran harder with levels of intensity on the treadmill. Hit 5K+ today in 40 minutes. My free weight routine I bumped up the weights. Since then I've gained 2 lbs of muscle. That's and extra 100 cals burned in my sleep.
I drank a bit more water to help flush out the toxins left by in my fat.
I immediately dropped 2 lbs of fat. I checked my scale and found that my muscle and bone grew by 1 lb.
Now that I eat nothing but clean food my stomach has flattened and I am starting to see definition in my abs.
The fatter you are the faster your metabolism. Weight X 10 = Resting Calorie Burn.
The more you weigh the more calories you burn.
A plateau is a halt in your weight loss. Eventually your new style of eating results in new equilibrium with your now slower metabolism. This is the plateau. This means that in order to lose more weight, you need to increase activity... OR ...decrease the calories you eat. Do both and get greater results.
The same approach leads to a plateau. A new approach leads to weight loss.

And because I love to beat a dead horse...since MFP seems to be the only place I can find that says eat back exercise calories....articles like this then confuse me. I'm a fitness instructor so I would guess that would put me at 16 calories a pound. I'm 152 pounds. That makes my count 2400. So subtract a 500 calorie deficit and it's 1900 calories a day. Now do I EAT 1900 or NET 1900? Many days I burn 1000 calories or so at the gym so to eat at maintenance would I eat 2400 calories that day or 3400???0

The way this website is set up, you would eat 3400 in your last example. If you only ate 2400 that would put you at a deficit of 1000 cals which is obviously not maintenance. MFP already works a deficit into your daily goals so if you've set it to lose 1lb / week, it already has a 500 cal daily deficit built into your daily goals.0 -

I've been on a similarly long plateau, so I'm going to read this article too. I only want to lose 7 pounds and it seems impossible! I can't figure out where to place my calories... I eat A LOT but I find I'm always hungry, this week I've upped the calories to maintenance AND I eat all of my exercise calories, sometimes eating 2900 calories in a day! Maybe it will banish the constant hunger--which I don't think is warranted when trying to lose 7 pounds.
