Not quite the same, but I often craved cake at night (sweet and carbs), once I started exercising more, I could fit the cake into my macros which meant I was eating it daily for a while, then I stopped craving it, now most nights I don't eat cake at all. (So in short, I stopped cravings by indulging for a period of time)

More practical, do you eat something different to bread when you get these urges?

Save some of your calories for these snacks, quite simple =)
  • If you really need to fill that craving, here's a suggestion. A toasted thin deli round, but with nothing on it. They taste wonderful...even dry....satisfy the crunch factor and have only 100 calories! But the best thing to do is eat nothing after 8pm. Drink water, have a cup of chamoile tea (this will make you sleepy and want to go to bed rather than stay up watching t.v. and munching-a dieter's downfall). Or have 8 oz of Crystal Light drink. Low in calories and big on sweet. Good luck!:flowerforyou:

That's what I would do. This way you can have the right amount of calories AND have your bread for a snack.

just eat something else instead, try a low gsi food like an apple or some brown rice. try having brown rice with your dinner (and examine what you have for dinner) to make sure you don't have cravings later - are you trying to go carb free or too low calorie at dinner for example?

I notice on Sunday night you had wholemeal pasta? did you get cravings that evening, was it different from all the other recent evenings when you are not eating carbs or very low carb for dinner?

The only problem though is once I have one slice, it's never enough :/

    I actually didn't.

It shouldn't be cos of that though I have homemade chips most days so I'm guessing that is enough carbs with dinner (other than from veg)

I guess with cravings always important to establish the root cause - is it eating because you are hungry, or is it boredom eating, or is it emotional or is it simply a habit that needs kicking?

I had the same carbcraving, but about 3pm. I read in a health magazine that you get these cravings because of a spike in your blood sugar. It recommended to drink chai tea, it is supposed to lower your blood sugar and help with the carb cravings. I tried the twinnings chai tea, and the bigelow vanilla chai tea. I add a sweet n low to it. I have it everyday at the same time as my cravings were. It really does work, it took away the cravings and I have reached a new low. Another tea it mentioned was chineese oolong tea which is supposed to speed up your metabolism, but I have not found that one yet. Good luck, use it everyday don't wait for the carb monster to bite!

    1. In order to cure your late night carb cravings, you need to stop snacking on processed carbs at other times in the day. Processed carbs are bad if you want to lose weight. If you love bread and pasta, then go ahead and eat them during your meals, but never ever snack on them b/w meals.

    2. If you watch TV late at night, every commercial will be flashing pictures of food at you. So yeah, expect to get hungry and have cravings.

    3. Go to bed earlier!

    4. Get used to snacking on healthier things like fruit, nuts, lean meat, vegetables, etc. Also, you may not be feeling that full b/c you arent' eating lots of protein. Try increasing the amount of protein in your diet.

All that said, everyone gets cravings for food late at night! So just do your best.

can you please explain a little why processed carbs are bad if you want to lose weight?

    1. I don't snack on them inbetween meals.
    2. I don't watch TV
    3. I'm not going to bed at 5pm just to stop myself from eating carbs, that is ridiculous
    4. I do snack on other foods, and have a lot of protein

Maybe you should check my diary before thinking you know everything about me.

If having a few pieces of bread at night makes you happy just do it and make sure you have the calories available to you to support that particular craving . You don't have to stop eating by "XYZ" time at night and you don't have to stop eating carbs by then either.
