counting calories

I have recently realized that the best way to stay under my calorie goal for the day is to log all of my food that I intend to eat for the day so that I know where I am at from the very beginning. Sometimes, I make adjustments depending on what happens throughout the day, but so far it seems to be working really well. Does anyone else do this? Or am I the only one?

That is what most people do on here but you shouldn't be looking to be under your goal but rather hit your goal (below or above by 50-100 calories). And yes it's ok to be over.

thats mainly the point of this website, as well as tracking your exercise. It's a great idea and keeps you motivated to stay under your goal :) I make adjustments all the time. Also, I track food I know i'm going to eat throughout the day just to see where I'll stand at the end of the day, and know when I can treat myself

I have a smart phone with the MFP ap so in most cases I add to my diary as I go. The times that I put in things that I have not eaten yet is if I'm going out to dinner. In most cases I try to look at the menu before I go and plan what I should eat. A lot of restaurants have websites with nutritional information and I can plug that in and when I get to the restaurant, having already made my choice really works well and keeps me with in my limit. I think you have to go with what works best for you. The main thing is you are paying attention to what you are putting in your mouth!
