OK I'm having a really tough time getting enough sleep. I'm exahusted (still make it to the gym!!). I've recently started taking a B complex I'm not seeing much of a change. How important is it to weight loss to get enough sleep??? I've heard a lot of things to include that lack of sleep causes sugar cravings. not sure how much of any of it is true. Anyone have any ideas?

It is important! Americans generally do not get enough and we are always tired! Try a routine to help you sleep at night, warm bath, chamomile, relaxation, meditation/prayer. If you still can't sleep, talk to your doctor to see if you are a good candidate for an OTC sleep product, maybe even something more "natural" like melatonin.

    Hope that helps.

Oh don't get me started. Sleep is a touchy issue for me. I have a hard time getting anywhere near the amount I need. Sleep is very important for weight loss-this was told to me by my sleep specialist.

My doctor said to try melatonin 5 mg a night 3 hours before bedtime for one month to try to help get into a regular sleep schedule. Melatonin is a natural supplement found by the vitamins. Of course, talk to your own dr first to find out if it's safe for you personally.

But I feel your pain. Sweet dreams!
  • thank but it isnt because i cant sleep its because someone keeps me up or wakes me up on a continual basis... I wont bore you with the details but my home situation is not ideal.

What, like a 3 year old who wakes you up 5 times a night for Lord knows why? I'm sorry to hear this, and you certainly wouldn't bore me with the details!
  • Sleep is very important to feel overall well. When a person is sleep deprived, you are just plain tired, cranky, and all the good effort that you want to put into being fit sometimes goes down the drain because you are just plain tired. Cravings sometimes kick it into high gear. Do you work shifts? Have you tried melatonin? Your body makes melatonin and this helps people sleep, studies on shift workers showed this result. Sometimes you just have to ask for help from a doc and get a sleeping aid. Trouble sleeping here too but I make sure( when I can that I have slept 7-8 hours nightly, even with getting up during the night). The other things to consider is what do you do before bedtime. Find something relaxing that makes you sleepy. For me, studying makes me sleepy so it could be something easy. Good luck!:flowerforyou:

been there done that!! I have a 7 year old and twins who are 5 :) but they are not the ones waking me up :(
  • And the not ideal home situation is always a big problem. It's not a bore but if you need to vent please feel free to email. My home life is much better now but it definately has been a rollercoaster in the past, some of it dealing with my 15 year old daughter. Good luck!:flowerforyou:

Do you have a snorer waking you? If so, you could try wax earplugs. It doesn't block it entirely, but enough to make it more bearable.
