How do you count fruit?

I'm kind of a perfectionist when it comes to measuring my food, so I weigh most items on the scale instead of measuring them in a cup. Fruit was one exception. I would put "one large peach" or "one medium apple" in my diary. Recently, I started weighing them, and what I considered a medium apple was more calories by weight than a large apple. And the peach I had was over 50 calories more than a large peach. This made me realize that the definition of medium/large is very ambiguous. Just wanting to let people know, weighing is the most accurate way to measure food, and if you're around your goal weight, those extra 50 calories can make a difference.

I weigh them, it's more accurate. I found the apples I was eating was over 200 grams on a scale which is more than a medium but less than a large. I switched to 2 small apples a day weighing on average 130g and it works well.0

I agree 100%....I'm the same way, and I always weigh my fruit (& most everything else!).0

Thanks for the advice, I have such a difficult time with fresh fruit because I'm not sure where to find accurate data. For instance I love pomegranate arils but recently saw some prepackaged pomwonderful arils that claimed to have way more calories than what I had found prior in my searches.0

I weigh almost everything. I measure things that are more liquid, drinks, yogurt peanut butter- or when baking.0

Thanks for this! I have been eyeing it up as you used to. I am probably going over calories daily without knowing it.0

Very interesting! I was actually considering buying a food scale this week...so guess what I am doing tonight! Thanks for the helpful information.0

I wouldn't weigh the entire fruit. Make sure your cut it first. You don't want the extra weight of the core or seeds? I don't weigh anything, I figure the guess for what's medium and such is close enough. I try to be under my calories anyway just for things like that. Not sure if you were only weighing the parts you were going to eat, but if not maybe the extra weight was from the parts you can't eat?0

Yup, I weigh everything. It is most accurate!0

Weighing is good, but from my carbohydrate "serving-counting" days, I know that one serving of most fruit is about the size of a Tennis ball. I never smooshed a banana into a sphere; I always took it on faith that a half-banana was one serving as well!0

I weigh my food. Everyone's got their own idea of what 1 large apple is. Weighing is the safest/most accurate way.0

Out of curiosity has anyone used the Daily Needs Calculator on the above page? It gave me a Daily Energy Expenditure of 2099 kcal which is about 300 more than most other calculators I've averaged out. But I like that it has the recommended minimums...anyone know if this info is legit?0
