"Real" Eggs vs Egg Beaters?

I find that the protein for breakfast keeps me going in the morning. Wondering what everyone's thoughts are on eggs vs egg beaters. The sodium in the egg beaters is kind of high and most meat added, makes it worse.

Egg Beaters are eggs with chemicals. Just crack an egg!0

When possible always go for the real whole food.0

Real! Nothing compares to the 'real' nutrition and healthy factor in non 'jacked with' food. Keep it real and simple.0

I always use the real incredible edible egg. Now I sound like a commercial. sheesh0

I try to go with real eggs...if you feel the need to cut back just take out the yolks (or even just have one yolk)0

Whole, real food! There are TONS of precious nutrients in egg yolks! And no-- contrary to popular belief, eggs do not raise cholesterol! Go for the real thing! And if you're worried about cals, eat one whole egg and two or three egg whites. There is no reason to buy egg beaters! Good luck!0

Egg beaters are good on the convenience scale, but real eggs are always best! ;-)0

Egg beaters when in a HURRY and just plain eggs are best.0

I've read that Egg Beaters aren't as healthy, mostly because they're processed. If you're worried about cholesterol, cut back on your refined sugar--studies have shown that your body can produce enough cholesterol to fuel itself, even without any from meat, eggs, or milk, if it has enough high-glycemic carbs.
So, white bread, white rice, white pasta, stuff with added sugar--are actually what is probably driving up our cholesterol so much. Eggs, somewhat, but not as much as you'd think.0 -

If it's convience you're looking for, get the real eggs already scrambled. They are in a carton like egg beaters. We used them in the nursing home all the time. Real eggs with the convience of the egg beaters.0 -
Always go for the real. Anytime you go away from real you are usually adding sodium and other preservative chemicals that aren't good for you.0

I go with real eggs....but I have 5 chicken : ) Home raised are the BEST!!0

Soft boiled (mostly) for me! Saves calories and I can use a little Olive Oil else where during the day or even eat a couple of olives : D Also, as I've said before, I like organic eggs- much, much better taste (to me of course)0

My theory is eat the real thing. Don't eat the man made if you have a choice in it. Real eggs, if you eat eggs; Real butter, if you eat butter (better clog arteries naturally w/ butter instead of unnaturally w/margarine and what all's in that, is what I always say ). I think in the long run you would be much better.
I hope you don't mind me saying this: try to buy eggs that are a little more costly, but so worth it; Antibiotic Free, Hormone Free and not just "Cage Free", but "Free Roaming" Chicken eggs (gotta look a bit for these, not all stores carry them). But the chickens are allowed to run around free outside and not pinned up in little cages or large cages where they are packed in 4- 6 deep and peck each badly and a lot of times fatality! Makes for negative situation and stress - the chickens that roam free produce eggs without stress and negativity; and in MHO, makes a better egg to eat. These chickens have a more positive life and therefore produce delicious eggs.

I've read all your reply's thus far and do not see "Dr." or "Certifed Nutritionist" next to any of the names. I agree that "natural" foods are always the best choice, although we are all trying to lose weight our reasons could be different. If hight cholesterol is a MAJOR factor in your reason for the weight loss, check with your doctor. Be sure to tell him/her the quanitity of eggs you normally consume in an average week. The the doctor can guide you to the right decision.0

Thank you all! I have been using eggbeaters forever....but after reading these post I agree that lower calories isn't always the best. Eggbeaters are now in the trash and going back to ole faithful=)0

Interesting that their chart doesn't show the sodium.
Thanks to all, I'm going to stop with the Egg beaters0 -
I have to say that I have never heard of egg beaters and have no idea what they are, so my answer has to be eggs!0

I buy the "whites only" egg beaters and use a serving of that beaten in with one whole "real" egg. Stretches the calories further if I'm making an omelet. I feel so wasteful when I only use the whites of the "real" egg and toss the yolks out, so this works best for me.0

I'm using the fake eggs now, but with good reason. Yes, like the other folks, I'm not convinced that they're all their cracked up to be as an egg substitute (pun intended).
Here's my deal though, I use the fake eggs have lower calorie/lower cholesterol, which is more important to me at this time. I get the kind that are already portioned to make 2 egg omelets, so I'm not making 4 egg omelets with shell eggs. Not having shell eggs in the house also keeps me from making frittatas and getting my bake on. Oh... tis the season to bake... And man... can I bake. If I have the ingredients, it's soooo happening. So by not having real eggs in the house, I'm less likely to create a festival of desserts.
So that said, fake eggs serve a purpose. On the plus side of them, they're lower calorie and lower cholesterol than shell eggs, so I'm going along with it.
I do look forward to the day I feel I can trust myself a dozen shell eggs in the house.0 -
I vote REAL egg,, the one with shell0

I too have no idea what egg beaters are but I find it very hard to imagine anything quicker or more convenient than an egg0

We do egg beaters.Egg Beaters do not contribute much more sodium than whole eggs. A serving of Egg Beaters provides 115 milligrams of sodium, while 1/4 cup of scrambled whole eggs provide 110 milligrams. Egg Beaters are seasoned, but additional fresh herbs enhance the taste of scrambled eggs and omelets, and when used instead of additional salt, remain a low-sodium choice.0

Real is always better. I only ever use real eggs. Usually home grown or from the chicken barns where my friends work.0

I was just having this conversation the other day with a friend! Yes, protein is great for breakfast since it does keep your body fuller longer. And I say crack the egg! Everyday for breakfast (usually) I have 2 eggs and 2 strips of bacon and I am good to go until lunch.0

You know where real eggs come from, right? Ew...0

It makes me happy to see so many people loving on whole eggs. The yolks are so nutritious!
As far as those who want to toss yolks for whatever reason, I wonder if buying Egg Beaters is any less wasteful than just throwing the yolks away yourself? I mean, the yolks had to go somewhere, right? Either you throw them out or pay a company to throw them out for you (or, more likely, they save them and use them in some other food product so they make 2x the money on 1 egg). Anyway, I'm not criticizing anyone's choices by any means, it's just something that I used to think about back when I was into eating eggs sans yolks.0 -
i use "just egg whites". actually i add that to one whole egg. i feel too guilty dropping yolks down the sink!0
