The Master Cleanse

I was at my friends work today, and my friends was telling the girl she was working with that I was trying to loose weight. She started going on about " what gives me the quickest results" and blah,blah,blah.... Not that I didn't want to hear what she had to say, but I didn't want to be perturbed by what my heart knew what was true... MFP! As she was talking she was telling me about this "Master Cleanse". I have heard of detoxing and those types of cleanse, but I guess on this one you don't "eat" for nearly 14 days and the longer you do it the more "uplifted" and "Pure" you feel. First of all, I LOVE food and that's why I'm here, in this body because I love it. second of all I thought things like that were for, at most a week? She said that the longer you do it, the closer to feeling euphoria you are. And she said that you are basically are re-programming your body. I don't know but, for me, I think that drinking a laxative for breakfast is not my top choice, nor is cayenne pepper in lemon juice.
I want to know what YOU know about The Master Plan? Have you tried it? Did it work? Was it the worse thing that happened to you or was it the best? Did you rid you body of toxins and reach euphoria? Please I want to know if this is something to look into or not!

I've tried and failed the master cleanse many times. I think the longest I've stayed on it was for 5 days. I felt amazing and slept like a baby but I missed food too much.0

They say when you are starving to death, you reach euphoria. Not sure I wanna try it, but that's what they say. I have heard this in Hospice patients with terminal illnesses.0

BUMP -- sounds interesting and want to know what others say.0

of course you will lose loads of weight just drinking lemonade for a fortnight... doesnt mean its healthy, and you will probably put it all back on when you start eating normally again...
stick with eating less and exercising more...0 -
:noway: To each their own... but definately not for me. As you have heard me say many times (if you haven't you will! ).... you simply got to do this with regards to REAL LIFE in mind. Starving yourself is NOT REAL LIFE. At least not any life that I would want0

There a videos of people on YouTube doing it. Some of them for 45 days!!!!!
About the euphoria thing... In their videos they ALL say how clear everything is and this and that. And they are all stuttering and sound high! Lol! Seriously!
Also that CANNOT be good for your metabolism!0 -
i've tried it and definately lost the weight, but afterwards i put it all on again..
great if you want to lose weight for an event or something but definately not for long term weight loss.0 -
It takes too much work to gain muscle mass to lose it like this.0

Yeah, all those kids in Sudan, Rwanda, etc are all SOOOOO happy...0

A few years back I heard that Beyonce had done the master cleanse and lost some weight so I figured I would give it a try... Well, I lasted about 8 hours and than ate just about anything I could fit into my mouth-I was literally starving! lol... I definitely don't have the will power for something like that but tons of people do it. Craziness if you ask me!0

For starters, I've never done it.
However, I have a friend who did it. She did it for about 3 weeks. She lost over 30lbs... I don't think the plan is to starve yourself for 3 weeks and go back to eating junk food.
When her 3 weeks were up, she started back by eating nuts, fruits and veggies for a week, then she introduced seafood into her diet the next week and began exercising once a day 5 days a week. Then she introduced poultry to her diet the following week. She lost a total of 50lbs- that was in 2006. She didn't gain any weight back. She did it as a jump start for her weight loss, and it sure payed off.
But for me, I know that I won't have the energy I need to keep up with my two year old. So if you have children, I don't recommend it. But to each their own.0 -
Liver and Kidneys....we all have them. They cleanse your system perfectly and safely,.......AND CHEAPER.0

I did it for about 5 days and didn't really feel hungry. If anything I actually missed just CHEWING food! I was using it to kick-start my healthy eating diet. I lost weight, but put it back on as soon as I started eating again.
The drink was actually quite nice and I'd have it hot if I fancied a slight change. I'd probably never do it again though. MFP allows me to eat the food I actually like and STILL lose weight.0 -
In general it is always best to talk to your doctor before trying something like this, ESPECIALLY if you have pre-existing conditions.
After having said that I've always been into natural healing and natural preventative methods. I've always wanted to do a detox, but was always scared to making the commitment.
When I first heard about the master cleanse I thought it sounded like a crazy fad weight loss scheme (that was last year when I first heard about it). Since then, I've decided to do the master cleanse after doing a lot of research on it it does seem to make a lot of sense (the ingredients and their purpose, the fact that you are getting calories in, and the methods to help expel the build up of toxins)
Anyway I plan to drink a minimum of 12 glasses so that I know I'm getting 1200 calories or more in. Another side note, headaches and some discomfort on SOME days are normal because the toxins come into our blood stream to be released through urine, sweat etc. The toxins being released are the things causing the temporary side affects not the cleanse itself. Also fat cells store excess toxins that our body hasnt been able to expel yet so as you burn the fat you are also releasing the toxins.
I'm not telling you or anybody to do the cleanse because that is not my place. I just wanted to say to everyone that you should do research and know what something is about before you knock it totally. There are many people out there that have done the cleanse and it's worked wonders. If you do lose weight while on the cleanse, then after the cleanse go back to eating junk on a regular then of course you will gain the weight back, that's common sense.0 -

I'd say the master cleanse failed; not you.0 -

Does your research involve any scientific studies (besides anecdotal and claims from those who sell the product? As others have stated, liver and kidney do a good job of detoxing.0 -
this is an ignorant comment. As if there are only starving children in African countries. There are starving children and people every where, including right here in the U.S.A.0

No there is no scientific studies to prove this specifically about the cleanse, but if you research about the actual ingredients and the benefits of these ingredients there is a lot of reputable information out there from medical websites and the like. There are very few scientific studies done and available on natural cures because it is not based on man made medicines that people can patent and drug companies can make money on. Also I didn't visit or research through places that sell the book, and it is not a drink you buy it is a drink you make with fresh ingredients. Yes liver and kidney are there for the purposes of detoxing and our body is built to automatically detox and cleanse itself. You must also consider that in these days and times the amount of toxins we are exposed to are much more than what our bodies were made to handle. Toxins in the water, in our lotions and makeup, in our food through pesticides, pollution, etc. It's much more than our bodies can expel there and the toxins are stored away in fat cells and other places until our bodies can expel them. The ingredients and the fact that you are getting all your calories and nutrition through a liquid form, doesn't detox you in itself... it helps your body do its thing. When our body doesn't have to digest solids all day then it's focus is put on regeneration and detox... With that being said I personally wouldn't go on a water fast or anything where I wasn't getting 1200 calories and nutrition a day. I'd just like to say again, I'm not telling anyone to do this and I'm not claiming to be an expert on this. I'm just saying be open minded and do tons of research if it interests you. If it is not something that interests you thats fine too.0 -

I understand that you were responding to that the "euphoria" scenario, but you should know that is still an ignorant comment. And you don't have to list all of the countries that have starving children to get your point across, and you don't have to refer to one or two countries from one continent that has starving children either. There are plenty of countries that have as many starving children as in the countries you've mentioned, like in South America, Asia and many other places. I'm sure you didn't intend on being malicious, but nonetheless it is a stereotypical comment and saying comments like that in general can teach younger people and children false hidden messages. Just think before you speak or type. I'm not perfect by any means.0
