It's unlikely, but water intoxication is possible. You have to drink pretty massive amounts of water though. How much are you talking about?

Only in extreme, extreme cases can you get water poisoning and die. You're fine as long as you don't feel sick and you aren't using it as a way to avoid eating. The reason many girls with eating disorders have the join problems and fluid retention issues is because every time they're hungry, they drink a ton of water to kill the craving. I know this personally.

If you're really concerned keep track of how much you drink and mention it to your Dr. the next time you have a check up.

I have heard about people dying by basically drowning themselves, but this was in contest situations (I think there was a contest for who could drink the most water held by some radio station a while back, and the woman who won died a few hours later). I think you are probably ok... :)

I personally shoot for at least 80 and up to 120 ounces of water per day.

The kidney's will process about 1 litre an hour, if you are healthy. That's quite a bit of water...

It's rare, but it's possible, it usually involves stupidity, or athletes, particularly marathon, or ultra marathon athletes, drinking too much water can dilute electrolytes in your body, which can be fatal, but 99% of the time it requires massive amounts of water, and heavy sweating and elimination of electrolytes (salt and potassium.)
  • Unless you're downing 10 gallons a day, you'll be fine. Though, constant thirst is often a sign of diabetes. If you find yourself to be thirsty all of the times, I'd maybe go check yourself out.

In a full day where it's spaced throughout the day, not really. Too much in too short of a period of time, yes, definitely. General rule of thumb, if your urine isn't clear, you're probably fine. :)

^ Yes, contrary to what some people seem to believe, clear urine means you're over hydrated. It should be yellow. Dark yellow could be dehydration, but urine color can also be darker depending on foods you eat. So just make sure there is a bit of color, and you're fine.
