Most recommend 1 -2 pounds a week. So at 2 pounds a week that is 8 pounds a month. Total to 5 months equaling 40 pounds. I would think that is a realistic goal

edit: took me 10 months to lose 35 pounds, I maintained a couple times but didn't gain until 8 months in on vacation. My motto is "slow and steady finishes the race"

Even hoping for 2 pounds every week sometimes is hard. Mainly for woman. When its that TOM we retain water weight. Most of us will gain 3-6 pds back during that time, and will feel discouraged. Though if you keep with your excerise and diet you will see the pounds that were suppose to come off the following week. Please remember that and don't be discouraged. It is a fact of life for the most of us. Just wanted to give a friendly reminder ^.^

i'm losing mine SLOWLY becausse i know me, so i'm exercising as much as i can, but i know i'm not doing it everyday, just cause of how i am, so i'm good with at least losing about 5 pounds a month and i've been doing that. the slower and more gradual you lose it the higher chance of you keeping it off so if slow and steady is ok with you then do that. just be realistic with your goal, REALLY alalyze how you will work out later on after.

I started with wanting to loose 10lbs, I didn't give myself any time limitations since the whole eating right, working out was knew to me. It took me a while but I successfully lost 30.2lbs
