Stretch marks

I know there's nothing much you can do to prevent them or make them look better. This thread is more about how you deal with them. My weight has gone up and down over the years, and I have them everywhere you can have them. About the only place I don't have them is on my stomach. I take that back, I have about one stretch mark on my stomach.

Who else on here has stretch marks all over? Do they affect your confidence? Do you still wear shorts and bikinis and clothes where they show?

I have plenty of stretch marks but I live in a country where you don't wear bikinis and shorts that often! ;) But when I'm going to the beach, I wear a bikini without thinking twice. Just take a look around the next time you're at the beach... How many perfect people do you see? :D
  • I recently woke up one morning mortified because I found stretch marks on my body I had never seen before. I honestly thought I had some sort of rash until a couple days later I had to come around to the fact that these were stretch marks I was seeing on my sides and breasts. I don't understand how I got them because I haven't gained a large amount of weight fast. I am 5'2 129lbs (1 year ago I was approx. 116lbs) and for some reason I have stretch marks. Right now I am hopeful I can fade them since they are relatively fresh (If anyone has any suggestions that they know work please share). I am using Bio Oil and moisturizing too. I am only 22 years old and now I am going to have to deal with these marks for ever...every time this thought comes to mind or I look in the mirror my heart sinks and I feel very sad. If any one has any helpful tips to fade them or any tips to deal with the fact that my young body is ruined please share. I will never wear a bathing suit ever again. And forget about meeting a man in my future who will love my body like I used to-I was very proud of my breasts and hips..my two favorite things about my body are ruined and I don't understand why. :'(
  • I had ones on my thighs that I was able to get completely rid of with mederma. Granted the stretch marks weren't that old and I was pretty young when I used it and it did take a long time but it worked. Its worth a try even if it doesn't totally make them go away.
  • I HAVE THEM BADLY ON MY SHOULDERS/ARMS... THEY ARE LIGHT IN COLOR NOW BUT BOY OH BOY THEY USED TO BOTHER THE HELL OUT OF ME!!! WHEN I GET TANNED IN THE SUMMER TIME, THEY TEND TO TURN A LITTLE MORE RED THAN USUAL. I NOTICE PEOPLE LOOKING AT THEM WHEN THEY TALK TO ME... BUT YOU KNOW WHAT... *kitten* IT!! WHO CARES! IT IS PERFECTLY NORMAL TO HAVE THEM... EVEN THE SKINNIEST PEOPLE HAVE THEM. PLEASE DONT BE ASHAMED OF THEM! YOU JUST KIND OF HAVE TO OWN IT! AND MEN, THEY DONT CARE!!! AND THE MEN THAT DO CARE, THEY ARE SHALLOW! SOOO YOU DONT WANT HIM ANYWAYS! I AM ALL THE WAY CONFIDENT IN MY STRETCH MARKS... SOME PEOPLE ASK ABOUT THE ONES ON MY SHOULDERS AND I JUST NATURALLY REPLY, I KNOW, LOOK AT THEM, BUT WHAT CAN I REALLY DO ABOUT IT!? NEXT SUBJECT! LOL...

BOTTOM LINE, STRETCH MARKS ARE NORMAL, *kitten*, MEN HAVE STRETCH MARKS... BODY BUILDERS HAVE STRETCH MARKS! I HAVE THEM BC IVE BEEN UP AND DOWN IN WEIGHT SO MUCH MYSELF BUT I JUST LOOK AT AS IT AS AN ACCOMPLISHMENT... I WAAASSS THAT SIZE, BUT I NO LONGER AM... OF COURSE I WANT TO GET SMALLER AGAIN, THATS WHY IM ON MFP, BUT STRETCH MARKS ARE THE LEAST OF MY CONCERNS!!! OWN THE F*CKERS AND PEOPLE WILL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO LOOK PAST THEM. =)

THATS JUST MY TWO CENTS!! AND YEESSSS I WROTE IN CAPS, BC THATS WHAT I DO! LOL

I got stretch marks too at an early age which have faded mostly (by themselves), and a couple of teeny reminders of my pregnancy on my belly too - but I think we ALL get some form of these depending on genes and skin elasticity and growth rate.

I'd love to add that these do not have to ruin your body image and you can still wear a bikini with them! Come on girls - are you really serious that you think you are umblemished or perfect if you don't have stretch marks? We ALL have flaws! And...a man WILL indeed love you and desire you and think you are TOTALLY BEAUTIFUL - even with stretch marks!
I get quite upset that us women are fed such dribble about what is essentially a natural occurence with both men and women.

Don't ruin your body image because society tells us these are anything but normal - and a condition which need 'products' to get rid of.
It's all up to you - how you view yourself. You can make it positive just by making it positive.
