  • Russian scientists proved that high amounts of aspartame over time caused brain tumors in mice (and aspartame is in EVERYTHING). Also High Fructose Corn Syrup messes up your blood sugar, which makes you hold onto fat (did you know it's made by feeding corn to bugs who...extricate it? YUCK). The FDA is like any government organization, they follow the money. Drug companies and the companies who make additives give them a lot of money. There is very little testing and they debunk anything that contradicts what they say. There is a lot of good reading on the subject out there. Aspartame was actually denied by the FDA and they suddenly "changed their minds." Go figure.

I'm big on natural health so the sodas are a huge crutch for me. I went off all artificial sweeteners and diet soda for a year after Hurricane Rita hit. It was free sodas at work that did me in. The way I did it before was I started drinking sugary sprite, which I can't drink as much of and so I just quit drinking it. I would have a glass of ice water anytime I wanted a soda. It's actually proven sugary sodas tend to let you eat less because of the sugar digestion. Calories are the bad guy with those, however.

I went to China in May with my class. This was the point where I knew I had to change. There IS NO DIET COKE IN CHINA. I had 10 days of no diet coke!! The first couple I went crazy and felt awful, but it was amazing after that. The year I was off it I felt great and did not want fried foods or carby foods. I loved veggies and fish. After going back on it I am sick all the time and have allergic reactions to certain additives (red dyes, MSG, etc). Pizza from the food chains makes me break out.

I am addicted to Diet Coke. I know it is horrible for me but I need the caffeine in the morning. I hate hot drinks so I'm at a loss for what I can use instead. Energy drinks make me jittery and I'm not much for tea (haven't found one i like).

    Any tips? Thanks :)
Diet Pepsi. It tastes better!!! Listen, one a day won't kill you. I drink at least 2 diet Pepsi's a day..............for the last 20+ years.

It has phosphorous in it, so if you are very old , it is bad for your bones.
As for the rest of us...no worries.
You do realize that phosphorus is a bone mineral? It's the balance that's important. If you're calcium intake counters it, it's no problem. Just like sodium and potassium counter each other.

Okay so explain how you're addicted to it if you despise the effects that you describe? How hard would it be to stop if you REALLY believe it's that bad for you?
