Fasting - Water and Juice

Out of my natural curiousity, I research a lot of different topics. When looking at juice and water fasting (long term over the course of multiple days/weeks, etc) the one 'side effect' that many of the different practitioners, promoters, and dissenters consistently brought up was dehydration. On most of the sites promoting juice and water fasting, the encouragement is for a gallon or more a day of liquids. How can one become dehydrated when drinking so many fluids?

**I was not researching this as a weigth loss method for me or for anyone else. I was interested in reading the comments from people who did these fasts about the mental and spiritual side of these fasts. There are many cultures and religions around the world that practice some sort of fasting rituals. This is why I posted in chit-chat instead of the other forums.

Bump... I am curious now too! I can understand if they weren't drinking any water because some juices are a diuretic.... Hmmmmm.... VERY interesting!

That is weird, maybe its the juice that dehydrates you. I remember reading in the news last year about a lady who basically drowned from drinking to much water. She was into fitness in a big way so drank loads of water, and flooded her kidneys/liver ????? or something. Two sides of the extreme really...;-)

Even just on the water fasting there is a noted risk of dehydration. It just seemed strange to me when I kept reading that over and over.
