I agree with the above. Fruit is a really good substitution for the bad stuff. I have an apple a day and it really helps. I will add that it's also good to have just a little of your favorite thing on a regular basis. Don't deny your cravings all the time or you'll end up bingeing. Just have a little bit instead of a bunch. That way you don't feel deprived. Remember, it's a lifestyle change, not a diet!
Best of health! :flowerforyou:0 -
Try not having that kinda stuff in the house...if it's not around there's a better chance you won't go outta your way to find/eat it.
Also, figure out what it is you crave, and try something similiar. I go with a banana, ice, chocolate whey all blended..once you get it right, it tastes pretty much like a real milkshake. There's also brownie variations, and concoctions that'll turn out like ice cream.
Depending on what else you crave, i can guarentee you if you make your own version at home, it'll be healthier (less calories) then something you'd get at a restaurant. You can control the fat/sugar/calorie content, so can make a waaaay better version. I do thath all the time with virtually anything. Baked goods, fast food, appetizers are always super-fun too.
I'm not a huge fan of 'have it but just a portion...stay within your calories' cause inevitably you'll overeat, or eat the whole meal/bag/amount. It's almost TOO hard to take a small piece of something. That kinda temptation is like dancing with the devil.0 -
I try not to keep sweets in the house otherwise I'm too tempted! It's hard though because I have 3 children and they enjoy their sweets!!0

True. It is a difficult thing to "just have one" of something good. I agree, I don't keep it at home either. But I think it's important people know that it is possible to have the things/flavors they want without feeling horrible and if the willpower is there, then have one. Being healthy is important, but so is enjoying life!
I like the "make your own" suggestion... I'm going to have to try that milkshake idea. Thanks!0 -
Choose naturally sweet things instead of processed. For instance fruit is super sweet and healthy and the calories shouldn't be counted because it's considered a healthy energy.
So 1 apple sliced up (and if you want to count the calories in fruit, its 80), add some cinnamon (0) and a good spoonful of brown sugar (40 or so calories) and microwave it for 30 seconds.
The sugar melts bathing the soft warm apples in a caramel like sauce with cinnamon! Then mix it and the sugar gets a litle like syrup.
So it's still sweet, but healthier, instead of a 300 calorie slice of pie, or a 130 calorie cookie, or a 200 calorie candy bar ◕‿◕0 -
i have to have sweets on a regular basis. i keep sugar free jello pudding in the house at all times (60 cals per serving)! i also have no sugar added fudgesicles (40 cals each), boston cream pie flavored light yogurt (110 cals), and skinny cow ice cream (100-150 cals, depending on which kind i get). all of those things do a great job of keeping my sweet tooth satisfied.0

I make a compromise. I'll have a 60cal Jello pudding cup - Skinny Cow frozen bars - Chocolate muffin top (think that's what it's called in the freezer section
I also be sure to drink a big glass of water - sometimes I'm just thirsty and think I want sugar
If you want to completely stay away from sugar - brushing your teeth may help. I love having the feeling of a clean mouth0 -
Have you heard about Arctic Zero ice cream which only has 150 calories per pint? That's a lot of ice cream for a small amount of calories. I wouldn't have it all the time, but it sure would make a nice treat without a lot of guilt. I haven't tried it yet, but do want to. I've heard nothing but yummy comments about it!0
