Eating bmr as net? The way to go?

I am so confused. My bmr is 1550. I multiply this by 1.375 during the weekends for a total of 2131 cals. I eat my bmr of 1550. On weekdays where I am active I multiply it by 1.55which is 2402 and eat 1750. Will this method help me lose my weight? Reason for asking is because I'm generally net at my bmr. And I want to. Do this safely and effectively. Suggestions? This has been my biggest question and I can't seem to get any answers. Please help!!

Is there some reason you have chosen to do the calculations instead of letting MFP do the calculations for you.
Keep it simple. Plug in the numbers into MFP. Follow what MFP says. Once you get the experience and the hang of it, make adjustments as you need to. Don't get bogged down with the numbers. Concentrate on eating healthy foods. Once you get that down, then you can tweek the numbers.0 -

Mfp has me netting 1330 for a 1.5 lb loss per week. With my weekend exercise it becomes 1500 (i eat my exercise cals back)Which is under my bmr. On weekdays my weekly exercise comes to 1680. I have been told numerous occasions to never eat below my bmr. Since I am always netting 1330, I question whether or not it is right.0

never mind - I confused myself :ohwell:
Wait- no I didn't... you aren't EATING below your BMR. You might be netting under it, but not eating under it... and I've never heard that you shouldn't eat under that number either...0 -
There's nothing wrong with eating under your current BMR. BMR is not the end all-be all, or even a static number, as you lose weight your BMR will change. BMR is just a baseline to use to calculate the number of calories you need to maintain your weight. It's not a magic number.0

Change that 1.5 pound per week goal to 0.5 or 1 pound per week and I bet you'll get closer to your BMR. Or even customize your goals and set the calorie limit so it's exactly at your BMR. No need to play math games in your head every day - the website is set up to be a tool that's here to help you.
My BMR is about the same as yours and I've set my calorie goal at 1400 per day. I tend to go over 2-3 times per week due to poor planning or temptation but I still average about 1500 per day so I know I'm doing ok.0 -

I have done the same thng as you - when I eat under my BMR I actually feel myself get weaker and more tired. I have my MFP goals custom set (we must be about the same weigh because I put my BMR in as 1580) -- I think it is a bad idea to eat below your BMR *if* you are active and don't have a huge amount to lose.
You are doing this right - your body NEEDS FUEL to be healthy and active!0 -
I originally just entered my numbers into MFP and it told me to eat 1330 calories to reach my goal. I actually tried that for 3 days and was starving! I posted a comment and lucky for me some good people on here pointed me in the right direction. I used my BMR and then added 10%. to come up with 1980 calories per day net. I added the 10% because we do not get all 100% of the calories from our food (80-85% ave.). I haven't been starving, only been working out 2-3 days a week, and I have lost 7 pounds in 2 weeks. I know if I would have continued to try for the 1330 I would have failed. My 2 cents...
good luck to ya I hope this helped,

So do you recommend me sticking to my 1330 plus exercise or change my net to the 1550 bmr?0
-
No but is this the minimum amount of calories your body needs to even function?0

Since being on this I rarely eat to my BMR. I eat 1200 net. I started by only eating 1000 net. `very rarely go over, only the odd day, and usually 150 -200 under net goal. Since eating like this I have more energy and feel better, not as sluggish during the day. I use the mfp numbers. but then I have quite a bit to lose, so I have enough blubber to keep me going for weeks! You know your own body, go with what is right for you.0

While on the topic of bmr should I be adding my exeercise in addition to the activity factor? Such as 1550bmr x 1.55 activity level + 300 cals burned via workout?0

Oh boy, reading your posts have confused me, so no wonder your confused.
I don't get the nett thing.
If MFP says I should have 1200 a day and then I earn an extra 400 from exercise then I obviously can eat 1600 that day.
If I don't exercise then I can only have the standard 1200.
What is confusing about that???0 -
All I wanted to know is if I should be following mfp plan on netting 1330 (despite the fact I eat over that but with exercise it brings me back down to my net of 1330) or should I have my net as my bmr of 1550 instead?!?!?! I'm aiming to lose 1.5lbs per week.0

If you want to lose 1.5 pounds per week then you need a deficit of 750 calories per day. That is what MFP calculates for you. If you eat at your BMR you will still lose, but not as fast.0
-
I suggest you eat what MFP suggests.
All the calculations are already done based on how much you want to lose per week and your exercise is added back into your calorie allotment.
I would suggest that if you're within 10 or 20 lbs of your goal weight, you drop your weight loss goal down to .5 lb per week. If you have over 20 lbs to go, you can keep it at 1 to 2 lbs per week,0
