Unsupportive 'friends'

I decided to spoil myself a bit and went out with my friends the other night, it was a good night but around half way through one of my old friends started poking and taking the piss out of me. While I realize that I need to man up about it a bit and learn to laugh at myself I just couldn't and basically threatened him.

Of all the things in my life that people could choose to take the piss out of, why does it have to be my excess weight? They know I'm working my *kitten* off to drop the pounds but they clearly have no idea how hard it is to gather up enough pride to do so.

Some of you might be thinking the same thing, I'm taking it too hard but think about this for a second. Someone who you thought was your friend is shouting his mouth of in the middle of a busy pub with no music about my "man boobs". I don't expect support from anyone, I believe my strength will carry me through but I can't stand people pushing it the other way.

I hope he gets fat, I wont say a word... just smile. Needless to say I can't be bothered with people like him so good riddance. I'll learn to laugh at myself when the jokes are funny

Doesn't sound like he was really your friend anyway...Good riddance is the best answer!

    In many ways friends suck.

Who needs 'friends' like that? If he was an MFP friend, he'd be deleted in a split second.

sounds like he may have his own insecurities. i know that my bff and i joke about ourselves to one another, like whos got the biggest butt or what i call my "fat arm" (the jiggle underneath lol) but it seems like you werent apart of the fun. he should have realized he was being rude and appolozied.

i would address it and see if he does give you an appology, if so then maybe he will learn from it and start to support you. if not, SCREW HIM!

*i also sometimes wish people fat!!

hey!!! Let me just say that his behaviour was disgusting!!! Dont you dare take that on board yourself and say you should man up about it! Next time, yell out at least I dont have a 'mangina' if you get what I mean.
He is a pig, and I'm sorry, but how bloody humiliating,
You win this battle for you, and do not let comments like that ruin your confidence. Losing weight is very hard, it takes alot of determination and some days it just feels overwhelming but when your so called friends do that kind of **** to you in public... he deserves nothing short of a punch in the face!
  • There's a difference between learning to laugh at yourself and someone making fun of your weight or insecurities.

Sounds like a douche - good riddance.
  • You're all great. It annoys me that I even thought of him as a friend when total strangers offer more support and guidance than him. Thank you for just letting me know I'm not going insane, part of me was starting to feel like I'm over reacting.

Many thanks for all the responses, it has really cheered me up. Much love ^^

I hope your so-called friend gets really fat, too. That's a good thing to wish on him!

Glad you have been cheered up. This journey is hard enough without other peoples stupidity!
