I have talked to health/wellness professionals who say that although, replacing regular water with sweetener alternatives like PROPEL, Crystal Light packets and other things - it is NOT a replacement for water. Most of your daily water intake should still be plain old good ol water. If you don't like drinking it plain then you aren't used to it yet. You will get used to it and you will love it. Just give it a shot!

Force yourself to drink it.... I understand the "can't drink it" I have a day every now and then when I, for some reason, just can't STAND plain water. Then I use crystal light, but 99% of the time it's plain old water for me. The carbonated flavoreed waters taste good, BUT the carbonation WILL dehydrate you and defeats the purpose.

Once you get going with drinking it you will find that your body starts to crave it. Just like most things that are good for us, it will take some getting used too. I always drink mine with lots of ice!

same here -- if it wasnt for flavored water I couldn't stay hydrated. I just don't like drinking water *shrug* ... and at the end of the day crystal light packets > than no water at all in my book.

hmm I may try the lemon + mint suggestion! :)
  • I cant it really makes me get sick the doc hasnt been able to figure out why yet. I can drink it with cool aid or tea or something like that just not straight water

    FRUIT WATER

■1 each of the following fruits: apple, lemon, orange, pear
    ■4 large strawberries
    ■Handful of raspberries
    ■Handful of mint leaves
    ■1 half-gallon of water
Cut large slices or thin wedges of each fruit; place them in a large glass pitcher and add cold water. Refrigerate 2 hours and serve over ice in tall glasses.
  • I do like it with fresh cut up lemons in it

I drink my own personal cocktail of half water half coke zero. Don't judge me, I was raised on that *kitten*.

I'll drink my weight in iced tea tho. Mmmm. I've never been a water drinker.

Those flavor mixes are ok. I really just prefer my coke-water. :drinker:
  • thank you that sounds really good

My cousin has the same problem. Water makes me feel sick to my stomach when I drink it plain UNLESS I chug it COLD right after working out and Dasani is probably the better tasting water to me. Any other time I drink water, I use Mio. Its cheaper than the powder plus you get more uses out of it. I prefer the fruit punch and berry pomegranate over the strawberry watermelon. I haven't tried the others yet. I feel ya tho. Its kind of weird. Our bodies are mostly water and we have the hardest time drinking it. =/ My house even has a water filter system and I still can't drink it like that.
  • thank you for your understanding

Harden up I say, I would've been lucky to drink a glass of water in 2 months before I started dieting and exercising and now I drink 3 litres or more a day easily. It's really not hard!
I wouldn't substitute water with beverages containing artificial sweeteners as many suggest they should be moderated if not ruled out altogether.
  • If I could drink water I would but it really does make me sick the doc had to find out the hard way I puked all over him when I tried
  • flavored water you can get a 6pack at walmart for $1.50 i love the lemon splash and strawberry kiwi. Also, family dollar sell Clear N Natural flavor water it's carbonated if you need a little fizz. Winn Dixie sells sparkling ice i like blackberry and orange mango no calores in any of these i suggested..........Good Luck!

    Here we go again!

You need the equivalent of 8 cups of water a day on average, from any source. These sources can be pure water/tea/coffee/juice/soda/milk/fruit/veg etc. It does NOT have to be pure neat water! Many, many people go through life never, ever drinking a drop of pure water. OP, if you don't like pure water, DON'T DRINK IT! :D There is no need! Ignore the brainwashed brigade who tell you it's essential to drink your 59582396945 cups of pure water a day. They are just making themselves pee more! Why? Because your body doesn't need that much, and urinates out the excess! It's not some magical fat burning liquid, or a wonder cure-all. As long as you are properly hydrated from other sources, that's all that matters.

As for coffee being a diuretic, so many people just spout that word as a reason, without actually understanding what "diuretic" means.

    di·u·ret·ic (d-rtk)
    adj.
Tending to increase the discharge of urine.
    n.
A substance or drug that tends to increase the discharge of urine.

Neat water is also a diuretic. The diuretic effect of caffeine is far, far outweighed by the actual water in the tea/coffee. Also, regular consumers of caffeinated beverages will build up a tolerance to said effect, eventually reaching the point where caffeinated drinks provide practically the same amount of hydration as a cup of neat water will.

Force yourself to get used to it. For me, there was just no other way around it. I think it's a psychological thing mostly. Those can be fixed though.
