As Fit4Travels is travelling and thus only able to access MFP on her phone, I've been asked to set up the new week's thread. And here we are!

The program this week requires you to do a five minute warmup walk, followed by a 28 minute jog/run, followed by a five minute cooldown walk, on all three days.

Good luck!

  • Thank you Russell for making the thread for us while Fit is traveling.
    You are the BEST!! Truly!

Well today was C25K week 8 Day 1 for us.
We didn't really feel like running this morning.
It was a chilly 38 degrees and misting out.
We layered up and headed out anyway.
We decided to do our route backwards to mix things up....( my daughter's idea )
That means a steep hill in the first 5 min of our warm up run. My HR was 150 by the time we got to the top and started to level out. My breathing was labored and my calves were screaming. ( I am going to feel that later ).
We kept plodding along until we got through that first 10 min run.
We walked 9 mins and then took off for our long run. Our recovery time is getting better and better.
C25K week 8 says run 28 min nonstop.
My daughter ran 29 mins nonstop.
I ran 31 mins nonstop. WHOOHOO! Another personal best!

Looking into the Bridge to 10K group/program even though I feel a bit intimidated....

    Keep pushing forward...

You guys are amazing! I can't run (I am only just getting back to walking LOL!) but I am inspired to keep putting one foot in front of the other!!

    Awesome start, ProudMom! :)
I am hoping to get back into it this week. Going to try a long walk tomorrow to begin with and see how my ankle feels. If it is okay then I'll try some intervals on Wednesday.
    Good luck everyone! :)

My goal is to finish the 5K distance without walking this week. I was so close yesterday but the remnants of my cold interfered with breathing! Apparently breathing is required for this sort of thing. So anyway, I packed it in just about 1/2 a kilometer from what I had determined was 5K because I was light headed. Maybe tomorrow!!!! Thanks for posting the thread Russell!

I hope you feel up to getting back into it.
Keep us up to date and let us know how your walk tomorrow goes.

You will be able to do it TX!
    Glad you are feeling better.
Yes, breathing is a big part of this thing we are doing.

    Keep pushing forward...

Moving forward beyond the program - I ran 4.5 miles at an average 6.2 mph on Sunday. Blog of this is at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/russelljclarke

Trying to find a local 5K, but they're a bit thin on the ground (n fact, non-existent) so I may have to wait till spring then go for a 10K instead.

I've looked at it yes but (and you're going to think this is silly/vain) I'd like a number on my shirt and a medal at the end. I'm proud of how far I've come, and want to celebrate it properly. Nice thought though :)

We did a 5K walk / run in Sept. Our first but we would like to do more.
It was before we started C25K.
We only walked it but we had a good time and have our numbers and medals and pics to show for it. Good time!
There was a one around Halloween, one to support Cancer Survivors, a Heart Walk/Run, a Turkey Trot this week, and I think there is even a Winter one in December. We don't have the time or the money to do any of these but I have looked into them.
    Something to aim for eventually.
Spring should have several to choose from I would think.
Even doing the Bridge to 10K training, I think I would start out doing a 5K first.
See how I did and then maybe sign up for another 5K or if I wanted to be adventurous...a 10K.
I know you are excited to do one, Russell, but take your time and start at the beginning.
    Just my opinion of course.

I dont' find that silly, especially for your first 5K!

    Wow Russell, you're doing great!

I went for a nice long walk today and felt fine-a tiny bit of a tweak in a different spot, I think just from my weird gait while the ankle was hurting. So I'm going to take it easy getting back into running. If my cold is gone tomorrow I'll try a little run-not sure how far back to go though so I might just judge by how it feels.

The day was perfect for a run! Chilly and cloudy! I use google maps pedometer to figure out distance and I don't know how accurate it is. Unfortunately I took a turn down the wrong road and messed up my distance, so I may have been just a tad short of 5K. But it's the closest I've come yet and I'm pleased with the run. I do believe that I'll have a time under 40 minutes before the next week and a half is over. That's good for now, but only for now.

Russell, I don't think that's silly or vain at all. I feel the same way. No matter what my time is in my first official 5K, I want a number, an official photo and preferably one of those timing chips that you attach to your shoe. AND, I do believe that YOU will have a "real" medal hanging around your neck at the end!
  • Well, friends, today I took my run to the treadmill. It wasn't bad!!! I had the workout room all to myself at work, it was nice and quiet. I actually found treadmill running very challenging, although my heart rate was lower than outdoors. What I liked the best is that I could track my speed, which is hard to do outside. I ran between 3.8-4.3 mph. I felt I was running much faster on the treadmill than outside. Unfortunately the treadmills at work are not very advanced and I'm not sure they track distance... but I'll play around with them more the next time.

I am SO happy this is a viable option for me! I am determined to finish this program and go on to the bridge to 10K.

My next running day is on Thanksgiving. Fortunately they are predicting a warmer than usual day so I will be hitting the street in the morning before I stuff myself silly at night. Gobble gobble gobble!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in case I don't have a chance to come back! Keep on truckin' on!!! :drinker:

  • Good morning all!
42 degrees this AM as we headed out the door for C25K Week 8 - Day 2.
We did the route backwards again - I think we kind of like it backwards.
Well, it mixes things up at least.
Funny how things look different the other way...or maybe we are just seeing things from another angle and so it seems that way.
Anyway, we did the steep uphill and ABOUT DIED but kept our heart rate under 150 this time. Thank goodness!
I am going to have to take a pic of this hill to show you...lol...you won't believe it - its straight UP.
Kept pushing until we got our full 10 min warmup run done.
I decided to shorten our recovery walk today and start our long run sooner(Usually we walk to recover for 9-10 mins.)
We only did a recovery walk for 5mins and then took off.
The first 10mins into our long run was very uncomfortable...but we FINALLY got into our groove and it all started working smoothly after that.
If you remember my daughter had a personal best on Monday of 29mins. YAY!!
Monday, I had a personal best of 31mins - YAY ME!

Today, my daughter set another personal best of 30 mins.
Today, I surpassed Monday's personal best with 38 mins!!

    Yippeee!!

    Keep pushing forward...

Good point! I am using them as a pacer for the Warrior Dash and to show myself I can do them ;-) If I come across any advertised in my mags over your neck of the woods I'll let you know :-)

    Oh, please do!
  • Today I ran for distance, instead of time, and I completed a full 2 miles. Best of all, it was just a tad over the 28 minutes alotted to us in week 8. Happy Thanksgiving indeed!!!

I just mapped my run from Thanksgiving morning and even though it was a little confusing because I was mapping trails in addition to road, I know that I ran (no walking) for over 3 miles, probably close to 4!!!!! I am so pleased!!!!!

Have decided to abandon C25K, as I've done quite a few now and the B210K challenge is looming hard and fast (for those that are interested, sign up here http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/395037-bridge-to-10k-challenge-starts-december)

However, for the sake of continuity, I completed some B210K intervals today, and then some! 55 minutes of running at 6 mph this morning. My knee and calf problems seem to have abated, as I had no issues at all this morning.

You are ready to move up Russell.
    I get that.
The B210K challenge is knocking at my door but I do want to finish this last week of C25K.
I will feel better knowing it is finished.
  • C25K week 9 ( since we dont have a thread for week 9 - I am putting it here ).

Had a false start this AM.
Got all dressed in layers for a chilly run. Did our warm up stretches.
Did our warm up walk and decided I couldn't run with my shoe rubbing a sore spot on my pinkie toe and across it onto the piggie next to it.
    Had to circle back home.
    After that...my motivation was lost.
The kids & I did school and then for a break this afternoon - we headed out again.
I taped up my toes until I couldn't feel the rubbing.
The kids rode their bikes and I ran.
I did really well and was very pleased. I elongated my route to capture a few more blocks and stretch my 3.7 route into a 4mile route.
Rough start but I am glad I didn't give up and got the run in.

I am looking forward to starting B210K next week - assuming the weather holds out for me.
The forecast is calling for a "chance" for snow flurries tonight.
(heavy sigh & :noway:  ).

    Keep pushing forward.

I'll see how this week goes (what kind of distances I can do in 30 minutes) and I think I may not be too far behind on starting the B210K. My run last night was awesome-so nice to be back at it! :) No problem with my ankle at all so I just kept running, did almost 30min but a bit slower paced.

    Hey everyone !!

Waaay too cold to go for our run this AM.
    In the 20's - Brrr.
Really pretty though so we will head out this afternoon when it's in the 40's.

Managed to squeeze it in this afternoon.
NEED new shoes - my feet, knees, and lower back were killing me.
Going to have to make a trip to the city over the weekend.
    I can't stand the discomfort.

Thanks! I am having no problem with the 30min runs, just going a little slower still. However, I feel fantastic so all is well! I may even start B210K next week!! I can always do the first run and if it's to hard, go back to another week of week 9 :D
