I have been going really heavy with Chalean Extreme and I am in the second month. I am amazed how strong I am now when I pick up weights that were heavy before. I have gained a few pounds but most of that is due to bad eating the past few weekends lol! It is great to be so strong and it really helps with my cardio for sure!

Not to call your fiance wrong but I've read, I think niner said it, that 8-12 reps is best for building size. The 3-5 reps is best for building strength.

Oh and thanks for the compliments everyone. The point of this post wasn't to solicit compliments (although, yeah, they are appreciated). The point was to show that it's freaking hard to bulk, especially for a woman, even when your try really hard. I really doubt it could happen accidentally.

One more compliment.. besides the obvious cut of muscle in your arms, you can really see definition in your chest--great work!! I started about the same time as you and I notice a change also (I wish I had taken good photos like you... perhaps I will do that in the morning...). It's hard work, but it's going to pay off!!! I can't wait to see how you are doing in a few months--bikini season!!!

    Great work!

Well you look amazing but I totally understand having a certain goal in mind and it seems like it's taking forever to get there. I wish you well on reaching that as soon as you can!

Good job Rachel! I really wish I could work with you personally because I know that I could probably even help you out more.

Oh, I meant to reply to this earlier but got distracted. Thanks, Niner. You have been very helpful! And yeah, it would be awesome to train with you in real life.

hmm...my quote button wont work today :( in any case! :) ive heard the rep/weight formula too, and kept telling my fiance so. He finally said, "kelsi, we are the exact same; eat whatever we want and barely gain and workout all day to no avail. Just try it my way for a month, you cant get any FEWER results than now." i end up doing the same number of reps total, just not all in one go :) x+y=z might not be the formula that works for everyone, we found out ours is more like a+b=c haha

Not trying to single you out on this, but just looking at the above wouldn't you assume this is a function of diet?

Rachel, you make me so happy and proud!!! We have different fitness goals, but you're still my hero. I'm suddenly afraid I won't be able to keep up with you if we do try to go mountain biking or snowboarding!! I gotta step up my game.

Well I HAVE been cutting back on my cardio during my "bulk".

I'm looking for inspiration and information on lean body mass gains -so thanks for the inspiration, could i have some information on how far back you've cut your cardio? Ta.

Over the summer I was doing 45-60 minutes of pretty intense cardio (Turbo Fire) 5-6 days a week. Now I do 30min of moderate intensity after I lift 3 days a week, and maybe 1 day of 45 minutes, more intense, including some HIITs, on the weekends. Mainly I re-discovered my love of lifting and cardio just doesn't interest me anymore. I've also read that too much cardio while trying to gain muscle mass is counter productive, but I'm not sure how accurate that is and don't have anything to back it up.

woohoo my quote button works again! Anyway, i CAN eat anything, but i DONT. I made a health choice, based on histories of debilitating diet related diseases in my fam :) i eat quite well, my fiance eats enough junk for the both of us :) and you look great, btw.

Thank you and good for you for making healthy changes. I don't mean to derail but the point I was getting at -- if you aren't making gains and you are training hard, I would look at kcal and macro intake well before rep range as the culprit, provided you are at least close to a normal rep range (ex: 5-12).

Anyways, we can go back to commenting on Rachel's arms now.

    Nice pipes Rachel :)

I've been trying really hard for 1.5 months. Lifting a lot, limiting my cardio. Eating an average of 2600 calories a day. Look, now I'm HUGE:

Oh wait, no I'm not, cause it's damn hard for a woman to put on muscle mass. I've gained 3 whole pounds and some of that is probably fat and water.

I wanna look like you, you look awesome!
