Looking for some good shoe recommendations. I'm looking to put in 20ish miles a week. What do you use?

  • I'd recommend hitting up a local running store to get properly fitted.

Asics are popular and not unreasonably overpriced. Go to a running store & let them fit you for a pair. My running store will watch the way I run, look at my old running shoes for the wear & tear, and measure my foot then give me 3 or so different pairs to try out.
  • If you're planning on doing that sort of mileage in a week you need to go to a specialist running shop. Ask their advice - they'll probably assess your running and 'prescribe' a pair of shoes. Don't underestimate the importance of this...! 'Proper' shoes don't cost an awful lot more than 'standard' ones, and you will be saving yourself a lot of problems later on...

    Good luck!

^^^^^^^^^^^^ I totally agree with this. I was running with the wrong shoes for a couple of years. Once I got fitted and was into the right ones (my Asics) life was amazing! Good luck with your training.

In addition to the other recommendations to visit a specialized running store, if you are still on the heavier side, make sure to ask them to give you a pair that's a little more cushioning. These are usually a little heavier but will save your joints in the long run....pun intended.

An example of a more cushioned shoe if you're you have a neutral gait is the Brooks Defyance or DYAD models.

I'm working up to 10Ks and I love my New Balance shoes, like running on air (I overpronate though).
