okay so have you ever noticed how skinny people get cheaper clothing? i was in target today and they have the target brand womens leggings in black and plain colors in an extra small. 10 dollars. i go the girls section and find the size 14 black solid colored same material leggings for 4.50. i hold up the two pair. guess what? same waist and same length. same exact pair. no joke. then i go to the pjs section. cute little pj tops in extra small only for 2 dollars. but you want extra large? oh we tack on an extra 3 dollars for plus sizes. it pays to be skinny.

bigger sizes require more fabric.
Also, depending on the brand could be more or less expensive.0 -
You got that right! I'm seeing lower prices now with my smaller size clothes! I love it! And even better, there is so much more to choose from! So many more attractive clothes! So little money to spend on them! lol ! I LOVE IT ! Hahahahaha (Crazy, wicked laughter) !0

i can see that to some degree. but leggings? come on its not even a yard of fabric as is.0 -
I cant wait to shop in the "skinny" section!!0

And.....all of the clothes left on the SALE racks are 2's, 4's, & 6's !!!0
-
Sadly, I know this to be true0

I've seen that myself. Jeans..women size 12 $40.00, go to the girls section and get a really cute pair in a size 18 for $25.00. Yeah, the tag may say 18 but the fit is a definite 12. When I was a plus size the only place I could find anything with any style was at LaneBryant and they wanted $85 for a pair of jeans! Needless to say I shopped a lot in the sweatpants section! So glad I don't have to do that anymore!0

its great for people like me who can squeeze there butts in a size 2 AND do up the buttom but i can see where it isnt fun to be a large size0 -
I don't necessarily agree with this--I am fairly petite on top, and have shorter legs. I pay extra to hem my pants, or for jeans/pants made that way. I also have to look long and hard for a bra--very few stores carry my size, so I pay for that too.
I hope this isn't a bash petite people thing...I wish people could embrace all shapes&sizes. (And that is tough even for me, because I may be petite, but I know all my flaws!)0 -
Even better- scoring clothing at thrift stores! I basically got myself a new wi ter wardrobe for $50 a couple weeks ago, including two coats.0

i see your point. i struggle cause im tall and i need long pants but shirts, dresses, all of that i can get cheaper. anything that is not "regular" is going to be more.0 -

No skinny people don't get cheaper clothing.
I have the hardest time finding jeans/pants that fit my waist and my length.. I can spend upwards of 50-100 dollars to not only buy a pair of jeans/pants, but then have them altered if the waist is too big/or the length needs to be taken out.
Plus I have a long torso, so my tops generally are pretty short on me.. which means i need to pay extra for clothes to go under and make them long enough/not too low.
It's a pain clothes shopping.. for once I'd like to be able to just go and pick something off the rack and know it fits without even having to try it on.0 -

This part made me laugh I was buying underwear the other day and thinking, why are thongs so much more then Briefs, there is less fabric.0 -

i know a great way to get super cheap thongs. go to walmart and get the 49 cent spools of ultra thin ribbon and then tie a circle and then tie another strap going between it. walah one spool makes about 10 pair. :laugh:0 -

ya dont think? you can spend 99 cents and up grade to slightly thicker ribbon that feels like satan.0 -

Not a bash at all. I am friends with several ladies who are very petite. They run into the same problems. Nica (friend at work) has the same problem with bras. When she does find her size she buys quite a few. I do alterations with length for several people.0 -

OMG LMAO!!!!!! But it is sooooo true. 10 bucks for a cute thong and 5 bucks for a 4 pack of regular briefs.0 -
my clothes might be cheaper..but my heels necessary to wear my pants or the tailor necessary to make them short enough evens it all out...I had this talk with my niece when she was about 10...unless you are the fit model for a store or a brand there is no such thing as a perfect fit for anyone...there are few people who can buy clothes off the rack that fit them exactly as they should fit...so don't think that your long legs, short torse, short legs and long torso...big butt, curvy figure, boyish figure with a concave *kitten* has it any tougher finding clothes than anyone else.0

Skinny people IN GENERAL most certainly DO get clothing cheaper. The OP didn't mention petite people or people with non-average hip to waist ratios.
Clothes about AVERAGE size are also often a lot cuter and more to pick from than clothes at either end of the scale. But by FAR way cuter than clothes at the top end of the sizes and only slightly cuter or more plentiful than the bottom end at the smaller end of the scale. Again - NOT referring to petite or non-average hip/waist ratio sizes.
It was a perfectly true generalized statement.
When the special $450 armored motorcycle jackets were on sale at the end of the season, anyone a size 10-12 could have got one for $150 but at my weight starting MFP my only option was a special order $650 jacket. And this is a piece of safety equipment designed to save my life and limbs, not some fashion statement. I want to be "skinny" (a general term) because I want to pay $150 for that jacket next year!0 -
The Grass is Always Greener, or some kind of Murphy's Law of shoppin, always seems to follow me. There's always better selection in whatever size I'm NOT! :laugh:0

I once accidentally bought a nursing bra. I was so excited to find a white bra in my size on clearance that I didn't take a good look at it until I got home.
Then I thought of that hypothetical poor starving baby that would have to nurse from boobies as small as mine... I would be so ticked off if I was breastfeeding and only a 36B! Guess that's why it was on clearance. Not a lot of demand.0 -

I was only ever a 34B and nursed my baby for 15 months and never had an issue. DD definitely wasn't starving. Breast size has nothing to do with milk supply.
Anyhow, I watched something on TV once about the difference in pricing in clothing size. Clothing lines are priced by groups. So a price for smaller sizes and a price for plus sizes. No, a size 2 is not cheaper than a size 10, but will be cheaper than a size listed in the plus category, because the pricing is based on the average cost of materials for that grouping. Also, which the actual material in the finished product may not look like a huge difference, it is the cost of the raw materials, not the finished product that matters. Do you sew? Are you familiar with pattern piece layouts? So, say with a pair of pants in a size 6, they are able to fit 3 pattern pieces across the width of fabric. Go up to a size 24, and now you can not quite fit 3 across anymore, so you have to move that 3rd piece down in to another row. Larger pieces are harder to puzzle together.
You also can't really compare adult clothes to children's, even of similar size because they often aren't made to the same quality standards, since they are expected to be grown out of within a few months. They will contain cheaper fastenings, cheaper thread, fewer reinforced seams, etc.0 -
Very true. I cant wait till I'm a size 12/14 (Aus) as I work across the road from a shopping centre full of clearance stores. Walk past the shops and they all have signs like 'Nothing over $10!' The one shop I can buy from reduces down to $70.....
I was able to get a cheap bra. Good quality strapless for $20! I'll keep an eye on that shop for cheap bras. They have that sale on often.0 -
