Hi!! I'm new to eating alot more protein....
Just wondering how many grams of protein a day are you eating??

    55-85 grams.

    take your body weight in kg, and multiply that number by 0.8. your answer will give you the amount, in grams, your body needs each day. since your body cannot store protein, the rest will be excreted.

    example:

    60 kg x 0.8 = 48 g protein/day.

    It depends on your weight. 1/2 to 1 gram of protein per pound of your weight. If you are very active, recovering from surgery or sick/cold, you should be having more.

    About 1g/lb body weight, which for me is about 125-130g.

    Proteins are the building blocks of muscle and keep you satiated longer than carbs!

    Hi there,

    MFP set my goal at 63 grams a day and I usually meet or exceed that. I find protein fills me up and keeps me satified.
    Things other than meat that provide protein:

    Eggs!
    Cottage cheese... (and all dairy - yoghurt makes a good filling snack)
    Hummus
    Red kidney beans (we add them to lean mince - they give more fiber and make the mince go further)
    Tofu and vege 'meat' products (I don't like them much, but some might...)

    my nutritionist and trainer said that since i do a lot of running and strength training, in order for me not to lose muscle mass my protien intake should be between 130-140 grams.

    It varies... sometimes it is as low as 90g and sometimes as high as 210g.

    MFP recommends 45 for me (with no exercise) but I shoot for 100 regardless.

    Don't know what you mean by "overloading" on protein. The guys in here eating 170+ are most likely meeting daily needs based on one gram per lb of body weight, which is typical if you want to build muscle.

    Besides, it takes quite the effort to eat a lot of quality protein - it's worlds easier to consume fats and carbs in abundance, but eat too much of those and they won't be doing your weight any favors (composed to ingesting too much protein)

    MFP recommended about 45 for me, which I thought was low... I bumped my goal to about 70, but I usually only get 55-65.

    I'm good with 45+, I shoot for 90, average 80 and I'm fine with that.

    I don't do protein powders and only eat what I like, so...I guess it depends on your goals. :smile:
